Asobo, please don't release SU16 for 2020

I hope it will take longer(!!!), with each update I got missing more quality and functionality for Addons in Marketplace.
Asobo adds/updates three tiny things, and kills functionality on a quite a few purchases in Marketplace.

A reminder that a Pilot is a Pilot per the SOP. There’s no difference between the players. I’m an enthusiast (and former SP) and I enjoy both Sims for their stability and technical advances. Let’s please not have this callout.

I would just say to the devs:-

Please remember that more isn’t necessarily better - especially with MSFS2020 - and we don’t need or particularly have any requirementfor more of anything but we would like better ( in terms of outstanding issues/bugs)

On xbox fs2020 I just need new world map textures and ability to start flight from random ground. That’s it.

I would reinstall FS2020 on Xbox X if they were able to fix common hardware connection problems(mouse and keyboard bugs only found on MSFS2020), as I reported more than 6 months ago. But I can dedicate all my time following advice from Zendesk, uninstalling and deleting what so ever, without ever any problem solving result.

I got latest `2024 hardware as software what runs perfect in ANY other games on PC(Epic, Ubisoft, …, certain MS), but a bag full of beginner bugs in MSFS2020!!!

SU16 is out!

Ouch 11 GB update!

And??? Did you install it and what is the verdict?

Too early to tell what the verdict is, given the big pillar on this Sim Update is what appears to be the long mentioned GDK RAM optimization that Seb said would give back an additional 500MB of working memory to XBox users and potentially alleviate things like Avionics Black Out. It’s literally only been out for about an hour. Give it a few days and let everyone, especially console users, give it a try. There’s also a survey for it - keep an eye on what people post there.

Believe me, the update is not bad at all. You will see better bing maps worldwide.

Can you post photos here? I’m not part of the beta and don’t want to test my nerves, but if the maps really did improve then I’d love to see comparison photos.

It was a 2.1gb update and it installed fine. However when I was messing with the graphics settings, my computer rebooted. I probably should have rebooted after the update installed.

I was able to get back in the sim. But I only get around 50 FPS using either DX11 or DX12 with FG on in DX12. I don’t know why unless it has something to do with the latest Nvidia Driver.

Too much to compare. These only few example of nice improvement over previously ugly location:

The whole Asia, Africa, and South America improved quite a lot. Also Australia, North America, and Europe but not as much.

Reality check required!

I’ve been noticing for a while now (I think since the release of SU16) that as you accumulate hours in the world on each flight, the LOD reduces to levels that I’d venture to say are the minimum of the PC version. I notice this most on long flights with airlines, whether with the 747-8i or the A320 from iniBuilds, but also with light aircraft and turboprops. And if I return to the area where it was reduced on a new flight, it is resolved.

I broadly agree with this. I’m on XBSX and (on XBSX) coming back to 2020 from 2024 is a complete relief from the stress of poor performance, missing features (A.I. Pilot most especially), with all my add-ons present and functioning as intended, etc. Visually, with WU installed, 2020 is still such a beautiful sim (have you seen the stunning coastlines of the Caribbean and Brazil updates, for instance?).

It’s running great. Please don’t take anything away, don’t complicate the issues, and, above all, please don’t break it. It took us five long years to have the sim (2020) working in this way.

Giving the beta test a run through. Can confirm that sections of Australia have updated aerials in SU16, which includes road placements that correctly reflect newer higways that have not been visible in FS2020 so far. And maybe this is just in more rural areas of Australia, but the downside is that large portions of these roads have not been ā€œcreatedā€ with asphalt textures, but are represented exclusively by the satellite imagery. So while you can still see cars driving along these highways, the road textures across sometimes large areas are missing. I assume this is also the case in FS2024, and would hope that if areas like this are ever upgraded with fully textured roads, that update would apply in both sim versions.

In this sample, you can see a proper road texture across bridges, followed by aerial-based road imagery between. Again, not a big issue unless you’re a low-and-slow flyer. And even then, lets be honest, in real life asphalt surfaces will randomly change along long stretches of road all the time, so I can put up with it.

I’m also seeing some subtle colour changes in the trees and grass when I switch to different times of year, but nothing like the apparently drastic and unrealistic colour changes associated with the FS2024 ā€œseasonsā€ so it looks like the FS2020 visuals are safe from that ā€œfeatureā€ implementation for now.

The bug of FS2020 still running in the background after exiting is fixed in this update.

The local time / UTC time bug in the flight planner screen is still a bit buggy. If outside UTC, it now shows the correct local vs UTC time, but sometimes reverts back to both being the same. Seeing if I can reproduce the steps to report back to beta team.

The same pre-flight world map now includes moving clouds that appear to reflect real-world weather when zoomed out far enough. And the in-sim weather system is correctly generating multiple cloud layers and precipitation, including layers that affect ground visibility.

In short, if you’re concerned about something in SU16 impacting how you currently enjoy FS2020, or introducing new bugs that affect your preferred airplane or region, then join the beta, test it out, and provide feedback.

It’s a pity you didn’t quote the whole post which, makes it very clear that I was not criticising either users or their preferences.

If you’re going to quote someone, it’s respectful not to be selective as to what they said.

Ah, someone else who thinks they represent everyone in the world playing Flight Simulator. I hate to disillusion you, but people like me with hardware that falls between the ā€œrecommendedā€ and ā€œidealā€ standards for FS2020, are now just above ā€œminimumā€ for FS2024, and get a poorer performance from the newer simulator. So we aren’t changing. Add in everyone who lives in a very rural area or about half of the primitively wired up UK, who can’t get an internet connection faster than about 20Mb/s, and everyone who doesn’t see the need to spend more money for no advantage in how they sim, and you’re looking at a massive chunk of the target audience. So you are objectively wrong.

Here’s a sample area I’ve been keeping an eye on. It’s a higway outside Port Macquarie (YPMQ) that I’ve travelled along for vacation trips, so I love following the same route in Flight Simulator. Compare the FS2020 ā€œAustralia World Updateā€ version with the current FS2020 SU16 version.

Also, as per my post above, note that aside from bridges, the roads (at least in this area) are not represented by textures, but by the satellite imagery. This makes for some rather jolting transitions (if you’re really low and slow) where sharp road textures across bridges meet blurrier satellite-based road imagery. But the upside is that the road markings like merge and turning lane markings are pretty much true-to-life.
