ATC starting descent too early

They should add the option to “unable” and also “ask for descent”, on most of my flight the ATC is asking me to descent too late, sometimes at 20nm from airport.

When It’s too early I just trust my planned top of descent and ATC is not yelling at me, but when It’s too late, It’s too late…

SU4 Release has not fixed this BUG. ATC still instructs a descend to 100 ft on approach. OUCH!

Insert “Matthew McConaughey - those are rookie numbers” meme.

Doesn’t seem like there were any plans to work on ATC in SU4 - Working Title (who previously contributed to ATC improvements in 2024) said they weren’t assigned any ATC work at all for this update. Hopefully SU5 isn’t the same.

Hope so too!

Hey folks,

I just wanted to get a sitrep from you all on this issue to see if anybody is still experiencing this? I think from the descriptions it sounds similar to this report: ATC gives approach instruction 200+ Nm from destination - Bug Reporting Hub / ATC, Traffic & NAVAIDs - Microsoft Flight Simulator Forums

Please let me know your thoughts and current findings!

Cheers

HI,

Issue still there. I repeated the flight from CYLW - CYXX and got same results, see pics.

NOTE: Freezing windshield issue still exists. SR22T - Windshield Freezes - No Visibility - Cannot defrost - #11 by BigCow74

I also noticed that between 17000 ft and 22000 ft, ATC gives the wrong hemispheric altitude. For example I’d put 18000 ft in my westbound flight plan, and ATC would order 19000 ft. I’d then ask 20000 ft and it would order 21000 ft.

Hi
I’m in flight in career mode now, VIP airliner from HLGS (named HLGD in the EFB) to EDDB, with only one waypoint (VEBOX) on the route. I was at FL350 after takeoff, and the ATC told me to descend to FL190 near to Vebox at 500nm from EDDB… way too far from the destination…
I had been cleared to descend to 5000ft at 205nm from the airport…
ATC is completely bugged.
I just noticed on the EFB (not showed on the screen below) that I had an ILS Z06L approach, despiste the fact that the runway is the 24L and the ILS 24L Z via KLF is on the EFB.
on the MCDU I had in fact the runway 06L …

Finally I contact the Tower at 139 miles from EDDB who gives me the approach clearance.
Sometimes ATC is really late, but sometimes it’s in advance.

This is a MSFS2020 post but the same thing happens in MSFS2024. It will either start the descent WAY out at which point I need to descend as slowly as ATC will let me without telling me to expedite, or it will tell me to descend while overflying the airport like I am a dive bomber attacking Pearl Harbor.
