Hello! Do folks know which planes have this? I searched but couldn’t find the answer.
Thank you
The airliners and the Longitude are the only ones I’m aware of that have that feature.
Thanks much!
It’s too bad the TBM 930 doesn’t have it (940 does but we have the 930 in the sim).
I’m sure some modder will eventually create a 940 mod including auto throttle.
On that note - there are multitude of mods for pretty much every other Standard Edition planes. The fact there’s only 1 mod for the TBM (to somewhat fix its flaky performance numbers) is kind of baffling.
I’m happy that it doesn’t. Watching a plane fly itself gets boring after a while, IMO.
I’m fine with no auto throttle in the TBM. I too prefer to fly the plane myself.
Despite that, it still surprises me that no one’s done a 940 mod considering how popular the TBM is.
I never saw it actually work on the Boeing jets besides the airbus jet and also on the Boeing jets i have trouble climbing to the assigned altitude and descending to the assigned altitude when doing ILS landing approaches but its pretty easy doing it with an airbus I hope this gets fixed soon
True! Though the CJ4 and perhaps other aircraft will also give you FLC, which if set properly should give you a consistent climb speed up to your desired altitude
FLC adjusts your pitch to match the air speed you set it to. That’s a huge difference from auto throttle. And FLC is available on any plane with a G1000, not just the CJ4. I use it all the time. It’s the best way to climb with autopilot on, next to auto throttle.
How do i ascend and descend using the auto pilot on the Boeing planes and auto throttle thats what i wanted to know
Thanks for the detail. I knew FLC was not engaging an auto throttle. However, I was not sure how it worked. Could you explain as to why I cant use it in cruise? Is this because it would only be keeping a level pitch and IAS and not a level altitude? Does make climbing easier. Setting up the FLC in the CJ4 before I get going is a big help-otherwise, that think is like a rocketship
There is no fixing the Boeings needed. They work as they should (minus obvious bugs).
Use VS (Vertical Speed) for ascend/descend. If the plane doesn’t go higher, it’s most likely too heavy.
First click VS button, then set your desired climb rate. Auto throttle works without problems in the Boeings, it just engages in a different way than in the A320. In the A320 you put the thrust levers in Auto mode, in Boeing there is one (747) or two (787) switches. You also have to click the SPD button and chose your desired speed.

It’s right there in the name. It’s made for changing altitudes, not for level cruise. What you want for cruise speeds is auto-throttle, not FLC or IAS.
FLC is intended to maintain a set speed for climbs or descent. It’s particularly useful for for climbs. VS is nice for climbing, but if you set a climb rate that’s beyond what your aircraft can handle as it gets to higher altitudes, it can potentially stall. Using FLC, you set a speed you know your plane is capable of (like Vy), and it will climb while adjusting its pitch / vertical speed appropriately to maintain that speed and prevent stalls.
For descents, if you want to maintain a steady air speed, set your FLC and cut back power. The plane will descent at a rate that maintains that IAS. This prevents overspeed on descents. Personally, I prefer VS for descents, as it’s much easier to calculate a descent angle based on your ground speed and vertical speed.
In all cases though, it relies on the pilot to control the power.
With an auto throttle, you just set the IAS, and the plane with climb, cruise and descent while maintaing the set IAS.
