Aviat Husky

i bought the Husky a couple of hours ago and man, i love it. Like it much more than the X-Cub or the Savage. Its less nervous and because of that more enjoyable to fly. The only things which really irritate me are: the standart has the most range, highest altitude and also all the liveries. Thought all have the same range and altitude.

Thanks for pointing this out  I know I clicked something somewhere (because the water rudders were up later in the flight), I just couldn’t figure out what/where  cheers!

On the speed, at circa 4000 feet I’ve been able to pretty reliably hit 115 mph IAS in level flight at about 2650 rpm and full throttle, at summer temperatures in Oregon (I was seeing about ISA+17, IIRC)

Using this calculator:

That gives me a TAS of about 125 mph.

This is still within the “50-140 mph” cruise range given on the Aviat website … actually now I can’t find where I saw that anymore, all I see is this which gives “149 mph” as top speed and “140 mph” for 75% power, “130 mph” for 55% power:

To actually hit 140 mph TAS at full throttle I’d have to go up to 11,500 feet:

Can anyone get it over 115-120 mph IAS in level flight? Or is that about the max it’ll actually do?

I could see range being shorter in the non-standard configurations due to wind resistance being higher with floats/skis/larger tyres and reducing cruise speed

Yeah, i would understand a bit shorter range with bigger tyres/skis/floats but its almost half as much as the standard (377nm - 695nm) and 5600ft less altitude (14’400ft - 20’000ft).

So this doesn’t work either, as the engine loses power and the prop loses thrust at altitude so it comes out about the same. Tested in Riverside County, California where it’s also a warm summer.

IAS: 102 mph
Alt: 11,650 ft
OAT: 11 C

from which we can derive:

ISA: +19
TAS: 126 mph

Same true airspeed at full-power cruise as at 4000 feet, far below the rated 140 mph cruise for 75% power.

Yes, I feel the same. I absolutly love it! And for me, the panel is the perfect match between glas and steam gauges.

OK, so ignoring the steam gauge that seems way out of whack and using the gtn750 pop up GPS (ground speed on the GPS with no wind is IAS) … I get a bit over 100 kts indicated in level flight at 19,500 feet at -21 OAT which is TAS around 135 kts or just over 150 mph so it is in the right ballpark at max altitude.

The built in GPS seems to be in kts and matches the pop up gtn750 airspeeds in knots but does not match the steam gauge, I think the steam gauge is just plain wrong. In fact the steam gauge mph figure seems close to the IAS in knots on the GPS. Maybe they mistakenly calibrated the steam gauge thinking the outer scale was reading knots by mistake ??? No idea.

According to the article below

Level at 3,500 feet with the manifold pressure set at 25.6 inches and 2,500 rpm on the tach, speed checks give us 121 knots true airspeed, consistent with factory numbers.

https://www.aopa.org/news-and-media/all-news/2007/january/01/aviat-husky-a-1b-200

So they were getting around 140 mph.

Also here is a copy of the POH for what it is worth.

Thank you. I did another attempt with it yesterday with the same plan and it worked this time. These CTDs can be completely random, as it turns out. Really, prior to SU5 I haven’t had a CTD in ages… maybe the last one was when that Japan update came out with the VFR Map CTD. So I am hoping this just gets sorted out by Asobo with time. I always keep my installation pretty slim.

Yes your right keep the PC slim as it were. I use a Dell G5 and the BIOS, Drivers etc always get updated on a regular basis by Dell …and yes your right prior to SU5 I never had a CTD then had 3 in succession but everyone is different I guess. Now running very stable on Windows 11

I never hat any CTDs until I went to Xbox

No joke, I had like 10 CTDs already on the Series S. In the menu one time. The menu !

Have only played on PC once since SU5. Not touching that. The GPU goes crazy on my PC after SU5. I’m afraid the thing goes bust.

Doing my flights on the Series S. Seems when it has a CTD it’s usually early in a session or flight. So if it’s doesn’t crash after 15 minutes, I start to relax.

I guess they’ll fix it eventually, but something with this SU5 is seriously wrong.

At 3500 feet, 25.6 inch, 2500rpm i got only 107 knots true airspeed !

The Aviat Husky is a well done aircraft by Asobo. I do not want only complain, I will show you how to fix the problem ! The Xcub from Asobo has the same problem. I fixed the problem the following way:
The Problem is located in a lack of propeller thrust, so I changed the value in the engines.cfg => [PROPELLER] thrust_scalar = 1.4159 instead of 1.2 (the same number bushleaguelegends.com used for the
215HP version)
Now i also have 180HP Xcub which meets exactly the performance specs (speed and climb rate…) by the manufactor.

I hope this post will help. Greetings from Hamburg

Apologize if I missed it in all the posts. Like the plane. any manual or overview on how to use the two panel displays in the airplane?
Thanks

Where did you find the Husky engines.cfg?

I recommend taking a look also at the CPU and GPU temperatures to rule that one out. Better optimization, better utilization, more heat.

whilst entirely possible that emblems could have arisen just now regarding waste heat it may very well be the sim. After having a couple of flights with HF 1 where I just had the occasional crash on returning to the menu and on downloading the Husky.
Now after HF 2 I get off the ground and every single time the sim crashes. Without fail 20s into the flight. Other planes work better. The islander I can fly around normally. It is getting so tiring. Asobo not fixing stuff after a year and breaking working things. This takes the cake though. All the other things made using the sim a chore, now the just won’t let you use it at all.

The Husky engines.cfg is hidden ! I changed the number in engines.cfg for the Xcub, because the Xcub has the same problem. My post was hint for Asobo to solve the problem.

Yeah both temps for me are never over 70 degrees. I make sure they stay that way.

Does Husky have a vertical speed indicator? I cannot see it anywhere in youtube reviews.
