Azure ATC only has one gender type on each frequency - for ATC and all AI aircraft

Why would they change that? Tree is the correct pronunciation of three in radio telephony.

Is this still happening in SU10 beta? I don’t recall seeing anything about it in the release notes.

Yes. It broke in SU9 and is still broke in SU10 beta. It worked ok before that. The ATC and AI Pilot talking to each other on a frequency always use the same voice, so it sounds like someone talking to themselves.

Best guess is that there is some Azure cost (even if just internal costs) involved in the number of voices used, and this is one way to reduce how many they need. Either that or it’s been put on the ATC backlog hell, and sits there on a swimlane planning chart covered in cobwebs. :spider_web: :spider: .

MODERATOR EDIT:
This post merged into this topic.

Does it make sense that the TTS voice is the same for the ATS Controller as well as the pilot that is reading back the controler’s instructions?
It’s not realistic

Nope it doesn’t make any sense - i raised it in the SU9 beta - it was supposed to be fixed before SU9 went live based on the responses we got during the beta - but the fixes never worked. Now all has gone silent and looks like no intention to work on it. Massive immersion killer to anyone using AI traffic with ATC.

Given Asobo has basically said AI / ATC needs a rewrite and that will come quite a way down the list of things todo - why keep tweaking things that send us backwards? It was better without the neural voices where we at least had the variation in voices. Just leave it all alone until its worked on properly.

Hi. I started using the game ATC again after a few months without it. I noticed there’s just one voice now, while a year ago there was at least two voices: male and female. (I’m talking about Azure voices, not Microsoft offline voices).
Now all the ATC channels and planes have the same male voice, which makes the experience very dull.
Is this normal? why the voice change? or is it a problem on my end?

Yup. Same Controller voice with Ai aircraft on frequency. if you change to another frequency the ai aircraft will follow the controllers voice. as of now the status is only ā€œBug Loggedā€

Its my impression since my upgrade to Win11, that ATC has only one female voice (Jenny I believe). With that, my pilot voice also changed but is still male.

Can it be that MS want us to pay for Azure when using Win11?

Could you clarify that last sentence ā€œpay for Azureā€?
I’ve had this irritating bug since it began. Meanwhile i purchased a new better specced computer and moved from W10 to W11, doing a new install of MSFS, and I’ve never seen any option to purchase Azure.

Well, I see MS advertising on the web to do a free trail on Azure. It seams MS Azure has more functions then only voices. This tells me they want to be payed for it eventually. But I hope I’m wrong.
https://azure.microsoft.com/en-in/free/
Btw, I didn’t try it yet.

Hello, Azure is a huge cloud platform in which voices is only a small part.

Flight Simulator already uses Azure today at no additional cost. I am not an official spokesperson for Microsoft, but I think I can safely guess that you won’t ever be paying for an Azure account in order to play MSFS.

If you ever have concerns about things like this in the future, please feel free to bring them up in General Discussion instead of Bug Reports. Discussion on these bug reports should really be about helping the developers reproduce the issue. Thanks!

Same here–my copilot voice matches the avatar, but ATC and all AI aircraft share the same female voice.

Testing at EGLL default airport. At every frequency there’s just one voice - ground, tower, London center. ATC and all AI airplane pilot’s uses the same male or female voice. I’m now in the SU11 beta where there are significant AI traffic improvements. I find that default ATC is not bad. If this issue could be fixed / improved on, it would increase immersion a lot.

Can’t believe this hasn’t been sorted yet. After all this time there is still only one voice on frequency for everything except your own aircraft.
