Bad graphics!

What has happened to the global graphics in FS 2020? I live in the Houston region and all of a sudden I do not recognize it in the sim. It looks almost like xplane and unrealistic.

Have you doubled checked that all your graphics settings in the sim are ON? Many posts about this on this forum and the last patch turning them off.

If you have a nvidia GPU, if you have gforce experience check if it didn’t force “optimize” your settings, many people on the forum complained about that

If you use an Nvidia GPU and Nvidia Experience. this may be the cause of your issues. this did affect me, and you wouldn’t know it because your graphic settings in game look normal.

I have fallen for this before. I think this may be a nice thread.

If you have Photogrammetry and Bing Maps turned On, it’s possibly a slow server performance streaming back to your session. This contributes to the infamous “blasted landscape” effect, or that you’re only seeing placeholder buildings (right size, location) without the custom texturing.

It’s a known issue with the new update. They will certainly fix this.

I didn’t know x-plane had a new known ‘realism’ issue that would be fixed with a new update. Which one XP12?
I thought it had always looked bad and unrealistic.
:innocent:

I don’t use Geforce experience, and I constantly find my settings changing by themselves. It’s a game bug.

Some of these settings require a restart, btw.

I also suspect that what the Options UI is telling you is not correct. I toggled texture resolution from Ultra to High and then back to Ultra again, and there was noticable difference.

Might be good if you sent a couple of before and after pics. We could take a look at the Houston area for you. Is that Houston in France?

Also beaware if your internet connection is not enough bandwidth it will go off line and use gernic graphics. Even if you restart the game you have to go in and turn your data stream back on because it will not even if your internet improves.

Is that documented somewhere?

Welcome to Downgrade since last update japan
 this is pathetic.

they downgraded cause of xbox, lots of false promises and no hotfixes.

That statement really needs to come from the developer.

Yes, I know.

This I personally care less about. Their development cadence should produce incremental improvements that are stable to the maximum extent possible. If they can do that quickly to where you would deem it a “hot” fix, that’s fine. As long as the roadmap is detailed enough for me to understand it, I’d be good with a 6 month or a year release cycle.

This game’s problems boil down to bad communication right now. Asobo needs to stop releasing updates based upon nothing more than their fingers being crossed hoping that it will work. They need to come up with a development plan that goes at least 12-24 months out that includes specific achievable goals. And they need to explain to the community in a detailed fashion certain high-visibility aspects of the game like weather, and texture streaming so that we have an idea of what to expect.

Many people’s complaints here, including mine, boil down to the lack of managing expectations appropriately.

they would never say that they downgraded
rest i agree.

And I agree with that. However, I do think that they would be willing to say something like “We’ve adjusted certain elements of the game to support cross-platform execution” or something similar. They have not done that yet, so I still maintain some hope that certain elements that have been mentioned as “downgraded” in this and other threads were just hiccups in a apparently chaotic development process.

“Bing Data World Graphics” and “Photogrammetry” on this page needs to be set to “ON”. This is General > Options > Data. Sometimes the game determines your bandwidth is too low and just shuts these off without your permission. It has happened to me at least twice now, and I’m on Fiber network.

So fiber optic cable is just a connection medium, it says nothing about what your available bandwidth is. I would say that I’ve not seen a settings option changed without my input, but all my graphics settings got reset by the first patch , so I won’t say that it didn’t happen to you. Very strange. But ultimately, there is no confirmed by the developer bandwidth limitation.
