Bandwidth too low in MSFS 2024

I’ve had the low bandwidth message occur many times - it comes an goes a few times over a minute or so and then the reconnection remains.

During those times when the low bandwidth message is in place I simultaneously run resource monitor to measure network activity and OOKLA Speed Test to monitor my connection thruput and latency.

My Speed Test measurement never drops below 900 Mb/sec while the low bandwidth message is in place.

The sim network activity normally runs around 4 to 10 Mb/sec when the sim thinks I have a good connection and less than 100 Kb/sec when the bandwidth message is in place.

When the bandwidth loss message is activity - the sim CPU usage drops to almost zero and all the threads are in a wait state.

This occurs with a EMPTY Community Folder, NO map data addon, and a large rolling cache.

This may be a low bandwidth issue but is not caused or exacerbated by any of my hardware or software.

I have three 2 TB NVMe devices dedicated to supporting Flight Simulator - why can’t I just down load the data I use and be done with the network issues? I seldom venture more than 200 miles from my home airport, I fly only four or five different GA planes. Can’t I just get that data on to my very fast solid state drives and be done with “bandwidth issues?”

This issue is making it hard to understand how Flight Simulator 2024 is an improvement.

Welcome to cloud gaming.
You never know when you can play the game without issues.

Same here… in fact it got worse during the last couple of days. In the task manager window the ethernet usage is often only below 5mbit (got a 500mbit internet connection) and the warning pop up is displayed every couple of minutes :frowning:
A vpn connection sometimes helps; I have never used a map mod

that was a tricky landing in career mode:

Here we go again. In the middle of recording videos and the message doesn’t go away.

Yes I felt like gaming…
so start MSFS2024…
Never mind low bandwidth…

If this is the future of MSFS2024 then it’s an UNinstall for me.

Just frustrating. With exceptions the bandwidth is so low that the sim is unplayable. I got below 2 MBit now. Sometimes even lower. MS has to do s.th. and not tell fairytales of 99.999 % availability.

Here it is December 8th and although I got in on the second day. I cannot get past the main menu since. It loads relatively normally to the main menu but after that when I try and pick and airport of select career it just gets stuck loading. A couple of times after and extremely long time it loaded the plane at the selected airport but it was without any scenery. The plane flys but there really is no world outside, its so frustrating and I have tried every fix MS has suggested

My issues are exactly the same. My internet speed with Fiber Optics is around 900 Mb/sec and still cant play the game. I get to main menu but thats all. Microsoft support had me do numerous “fixes” but none of them has worked. It has to be a server issue on their side.

You are not alone. I am experiencing the same thing

I have the same problem.
Perfect internet connection (100 Mbit), but i only get blurred textures and loading screens.
I already tried

  • a complete re-install
  • the “change DNS” approach
  • checking the hostnames (google maps issue)
  • date/time sync

Still no improvement. I am not able to use the sim like this.
I would really like to see a solution soon.

Same thing. In Germany on a 550 Mbit/s connection. Tried reinstalling, time sync, never had the Google Maps mod installed.

Are there any other known mods that could cause this problem?

I was able to fly during the day on Saturday, but never during local peak hours. Seeing the reports from others, I wonder if this is an issue with their CDN and ISP peering in Germany.

Same here! In Germany! I have a very fast internet connection but I’m not able to do one flight. And nobody seems to take care about this problem! Unbelievable! Bandwith is always too low. Whenever I try. It seems like there are so many people on YouTube playing with the sim have no problems. Why is this???

BTW… I tried it with a VPN connection because I think this maybe helps but no chance.

Mainly the legendary peering problem delivered to you by Telekom I guess. Try changing the DNS Server in your router. Worked wonders for me.

And I though I was the only one.
Living in central Germany with a 100 Mbit/s connection but often times I get the “Bandwith too low” error even though the sim may just use 1 Mbit/s or so. I just had to wait more than 20 minutes for the airport to load in the Alps (LIQM). This is more than frustrating. And I even think it used to be a bit better in the second week after the launch before it got worse again.

Or are they just throttling the Game Pass players?

Ok guys i am done.
Just installed it on a completely different machine, 2% loading into the menu and the “low bandwidth” info already pops up.
Blurred textures all over again.
I am not a game pass user btw.

I spent hours this week just in menus and loading screens.
I will not touch this the next 2 weeks.

Please wake me up when MS finally wants to deliver a working piece of software for my purchase.

I have started setting up the network monitor on my iPhone while I use MSFS 2024. I have a fibre to the router, low latency (10 ms or less), 100 Mbps ethernet connection, a 200 gb cache and unlimited bandwidth settings.

The most I ever saw was a 26 mbps download. When I setup a night arrival to KJFK the sim stuttered and stopped with the landscape below slowly being rendered in chunks. Despite my network the most the servers sent me was 260 kbps.

I think we need to understand their definition of server performance and availability better.

The situation is still not good… The servers are still not good… My bandwidth: 350 Mbit

This fixed it for me!

I’ve done some DNS testing (central europe),

I’ve been using Cloudflare 1.1.1.1 for as long as I remember - the sim has become completely unplayable for the past few days with it.
The Cloudflare WARP app somehow helped a little, I don’t understand how since it’s the same IP

Then I tried Google’s 8.8.8.8 - No more low bandwidth messages, although speeds were still low

Then I removed my DNS settings and let the PC use whatever my ISP provides - No low bandwidth messages or live traffic warnings, ~50Mbps download from the sim.
(Each change was followed by ipconfig /flushdns)
Far from maxing out my 500Mbps connection but at least I can fly now.
I still don’t understand how DNS settings can affect download speed however, and I really wish Asobo/MS would change whatever it is on their end, because I can download Steam games at 60 Megabytes/s easily.
