Bandwidth too low in MSFS 2024

For the past 24 hours I haven’t been able to start a flight. A get an error of “bandwidth too low”. My internet download speed is about 900mbps.

Prior to about a day ago, all was well.
Help!!!

I have been having this problem for 8 days and I can’t use the simulator. Hundreds of thousands of people are having this problem.

I’m not having this issue, and neither are hundreds of people I know from this forum and other locations. But I have noticed some in Eastern Europe have, esp in Hungary. So not sure if this is local to a specific area or areas.

I’m sure stats from Microsoft will show otherwise on locations. So hopefully these are reviewed as to an issue with servers or local internets and structures outside of their control.

My bandwidth is perfect. 350 mbit/sec. MSFS 2024 servers are capable of 15-25 mbit/sec. That’s what Microsoft gives.

MSFS 2020 is perfect, sharp textures, perfect photogeometry. It’s not my fault.

Have you ever installed any illegal streaming maps mods (either in 2020 or 2024)?

Microsoft says they are 99.999% operational. NOT ME. I still get “bandwidth is too low” error. I will try again tomorrow.

While this may not be for everyone, it’s a common factor and has been for years.

However, it could be other causes outside of this that is local to you, your ISP or your ISP upstream/downstream.

Same here! Even tonight around 8 PM to 9PM local time in Germany local connections were super slow and loading a flight took forever, getting stuck for minutes on a blurry map screen after hitting “Start Flight”. And when it finally loaded, textures and objects don’t stream in properly for minutes. Only now at 2 AM it works normally, but so it did yesterday. I bet it will not work again in the evening, during peak hours.

Yet, again I could only use the sim by using a VPN, connecting to a server outside of Germany. While this works (and proves that my bandwidth can’t be the issue), this also can’t possibly the solution. But after todays update claiming …

“We are happy to report that the issues regarding access and streaming have been resolved.”

… which absolutely does NOT reflect the reality of the situation, I fear this will never be resolved. I never used the streaming map mods and I have none of the mentioned entries in my host file. So this isn’t it either.

Please add using a VPN to the system requirements if this is what we are stuck with.

It may be a coincidence, but I uninstalled the “MSFS Map Enhancement” program and now all seems good. Hopefully it stays this way.

Thanks for the suggestion

Hello @Patirish2,
Please ignore the flag you received. This was in error.

I’m happy this worked for you.

So far, so good.

Happy Thanksgiving

Ive been getting the bandwith too low message in the game and my textures are TERRIBLE. It takes over 10 mins to load into a free flight. Ive done bandwith tests multiple time and my bandwith is always above 100 Mbps and other games with cloud streamed textures I play work great. I pretty much cant play the game at all because of this issue.

Hello @DayStream774787,

Please see this post and apply the suggested fix if that situation applies to you.

Thanks,
MSFS Team

i do, come to our discord ^^ You will se dozens of images from ppl, including me.
Surely not hundred of thousands but one can see so many posts here, on your discord and every other discords community.

I just made a bug report with more info here.

I do not have a folder names hosts in the etc folder, so I cannot edit it in notepad. I have though, previously installed streamed map data mods for msfs 2020

Totally agree. I am feeling left alony by Microsoft. Peak hours (other hours i have to work) make playing almost impossible. If i start it very late in night or in the morning it works well.

do you still have the bandwidth warning? I do. Loading times are terrible and the textures are often terrible, too.

me too :frowning: highest speed i saw was ~ 15MBit/s, whereas steam etc gets 50MBit/s. Its a dealbreaker for this “thin client” artrocity.

Trying to play from Poland here, the sim has been completely unusable for the past 3 days that I’ve tried. It loads to the menu fine, but the terrain and planes take forever, cockpits have no textures if I can even start the flight, constant low bandwidth messages and so on.
I don’t have any weird entries in my hosts file, tried a VPN and a different DNS as well, nothing.
I have a 500Mbit connection which should be more than enough on my end, but I’ve never seen the sim use more than like 12 when attempting to download stuff.
Also, it worked fine two weeks ago so this is a recent development, I just haven’t had time to fly lately and now that I do, it won’t let me.
I bought the Premium Deluxe edition and I can’t even LOOK at my extra planes because half the time their thumbnails in the menu won’t load!

Same here! They are talking about everything is fixed with the servers but I’m still having the bandwidth too low thing every time! I already did all the fixes ( delete Scenery enhances and so on) but it’s not helping. So what’s going on there?? They say the servers are fixed! So I don’t think they Adress this problem in the patch next week. Its so frustrating!
