I have started setting up the network monitor on my iPhone while I use MSFS 2024. I have a fibre to the router, low latency (10 ms or less), 100 Mbps ethernet connection, a 200 gb cache and unlimited bandwidth settings.
The most I ever saw was a 26 mbps download. When I setup a night arrival to KJFK the sim stuttered and stopped with the landscape below slowly being rendered in chunks. Despite my network the most the servers sent me was 260 kbps.
I think we need to understand their definition of server performance and availability better.
I’ve been using Cloudflare 1.1.1.1 for as long as I remember - the sim has become completely unplayable for the past few days with it.
The Cloudflare WARP app somehow helped a little, I don’t understand how since it’s the same IP
Then I tried Google’s 8.8.8.8 - No more low bandwidth messages, although speeds were still low
Then I removed my DNS settings and let the PC use whatever my ISP provides - No low bandwidth messages or live traffic warnings, ~50Mbps download from the sim.
(Each change was followed by ipconfig /flushdns)
Far from maxing out my 500Mbps connection but at least I can fly now.
I still don’t understand how DNS settings can affect download speed however, and I really wish Asobo/MS would change whatever it is on their end, because I can download Steam games at 60 Megabytes/s easily.
Do you really think I have a poor connection and low bandwidth? Since I have updated to the new version 1.2.7.0 it is impossible to make any flights. It freezes on load and announces the low bandwidth message.
Recently, I was getting this ‘low bandwidth’ pop up notification on every flight, regardless of location, which was degrading the surrounding graphics/textures.
The reason behind this is likely corrupted files, especially if you have installed MSFS 2024 during the first few days of launch.
The fix is - for Steam users, run ‘verify package files integrity’. It will re-acquire 2-3 corrupted files. For XBOX and other users, you might need to re-install MSFS 2024.
Microsoft should let my company build their data centers for streaming services exclusively for gaming on Xbox consoles and PCs with optimized performance for Nintendo consoles and PlayStation consoles, we can definitely get rid of lagging and loading issues.
I haven’t got FS2024 yet on Steam but I do know that ‘verifying package files integrity’ on FS2020 will result in having to reinstall the whole sim again.
Does FS2024 on Steam work differently in this regard?
Same here. Since days it takes ages to load anything. And of course the low bandwith message appears. FS2024 vanilla, no map enhancement. But Germany and Telekom.
250 Mbit DSL and running perfect.
So, the ‘verify packages’ does not reinstall the complete flight sim. I was still seeing issues with low bandwidth and poor textures. I uninstalled and re-installed MSFS 2024 and everything got fixed. Looks amazing now with great textures and smooth performance. Finally getting to enjoy it!
What’s funny is that around the time the sim became near unplayable for me, https://planner.flightsimulator.com/ also became insanely slow, when the map and POIs loaded instantly before. Same content servers?
