Two renditions released within three days. Both look great; let the comparisons begin!
On Contrail, there’s one review of MK’s, which claims it doesn’t run well. No machine specs given, though. MK’s includes POIs around the airport, including the port. Sim-Wings also apparently includes some surroundings but no further info, and nothing featured in the promo video. There’s a brief portion showing the port and it doesn’t seem to be modelled.
Sim-Wings’ Spanish airports typically have the correct custom airfield lighting, which MK’s I don’t think has.
Would welcome comments from anyone who has either (let’s face it, no one’s gonna have both!).
I‘m planning to update from LVFR as BCN is one of my most used airports in the sim. But which one to choose?..… hoping for an in depth comparison soon.
There’s also the Justsim version which is probably the oldest of all.
LEBL market is over saturated for sure.
LVFR includes T1 interior but T2 is weak, and importantly the port area is modelled which looks a mess otherwise. It also has a few city landmarks IIRC. It has a good freeware GSX profile.
Over on the GSX community discord the concensus is that both new ones are better than LVFR, and it seems that the simwings airport is better but doesn’t model the port where mkstudios does. They are going to work on a GSX profile for simwings as there is a freeware mod for the port improvement on fs.to.
One thing that always annoyed me about the LVFR version was the default satellite imagery by the runways which looks poor. It seems from the video that simwings hasn’t improved this either, which is a missed opportunity. I couldn’t tell from the mkstudios video if they have fixed this. Overall IMO the simstudios video was better.
Might have known. When two renditions of the same airport are released around the same time, there’s never one that is succinctly better! One always has something the other doesn’t! I’m keen to get the MK 20% discount before Saturday but I may have to wait on this one…
The FilbertFlies video wasn’t particularly useful and featured more of the flight from EGLL than it did a comparison of the two sceneries.
After yesterday’s update of MK’s to correct some gates and airfield floodlighting, Sim-Wings today updated theirs to include some custom modelling of the harbour. This puts us back to square one re making a decision between the two…
I won the MK version in a competition so that kinda made the decision for me! I should be able to claim tomorrow so I can hopefully give an opinion then. It’s a little cheaper than SW, especially if you buy before the end of today — they look so similar that I think it may well come down to price.
Looking at the promo images/videos, I doubt anyone would be disappointed with either. But MK are better at issuing regular updates.
For me, the deciding factor was taxiway signs. SW are custom, MK are default. I hate the default ones, so all other things being equal, I took a chance and got the SW. Not disappointed. I doubt you’ll be disappointed with MK either but again, to each his own. Both good developers and put out quality offerings typically. I believe RW will be doing a GSX profile for the SW version as well, so for me that’s another plus.
Yeah, when SW do a Spanish airport they get the custom airfield signage and lighting right. The terminal interior also looks more detailed in the SW version, though MK’s last update did add more detail so they’re probably on par now.
As an owner of the LVFR version I would love to know if any of those two sceneries are a step up? LVFR also has a RW GSX Profile and proper gate assignments for AI. What do the new ones offer that LVFR is missing?
