So after updating MSFS yesterday and i tried to fly the bell 407 helicopter
from KSCK to KSAC well around 5 to 8 minutes after take off the electrical systems turned off and so did the engine, and tried to start the engines up and see if I can fix the issue and had no success. I would like to know if anyone is having the same issue other than me, this is very disappointing since I always loved to fly helicopters. Thanks
Also, I wanted to add this in. If you can land the aircraft successfully and turn off the engines, they will not start back up.
I ran into this about an hour into the flight. Attempting to restart had all the systems flashing rapidly (sometimes 30 times a second)
I have the same issue when doing a manual start from Cold and Dark. Check the voltage over the clock. In my case, even with the generator on, the voltage continues to drop. Once it gets to 20 volts, everything shuts down. If I do an automated start with Ctrl-E, the generator operates normally, and the voltage stabilizes at 28.5 volts.
Exactly that’s what’s happening to me too, In fact just did another flight, and the systems shutdown after about 3 minutes in the flight.
can you share how you did a cold an dark startup ? please (without using Auto start ?)
I’m doing this from memory because the sim downloaded an update this morning that completely erased my ..\Packages\Official\OneStore folder which means I get to redownload the entire sim. All 123 GB of it.
This is an over simplified version. Follow the checklist for the complete process.
- Battery ON
- Beacon ON
- Fuel Cutoff Valve (on the lower right fron panel) ON and Guarded
- Left and Right Boost/Transfer Pumps (On overhead panel) ON
- Throttle (on collective) IDLE
- Start Switch (on collective) ON and hold for 3 seconds
- Generator ON
- Avionics Master ON
That’s it in a nutshell.
P.S. I think I found the issue with the generator not charging for me. I’m pretty sure it was because I had a button on my HOTAS mapped to the starter button. I think it was leaving the starter permanently engaged. When I stopped using the button and just clicked on the Start switch on the collective with the mouse, the generator charged normally.
sorry i wasnt clear . what i meant to ask was ,did you find how to bind the engine start and gov buttons for cold and dark start up ?
Not yet. I’m still in the middle of reinstalling the sim. I found that by just clicking on the start button on the collective was working so I hadn’t gone back to finding the correct command to map to a button. As far as the governor goes, the 407 is FADEC controlled so all you have to do after the engine start is rotate the throttle on the collective from Idle to Fly. I used the mouse to do that as well. I wasn’t planning on mapping that function to my HOTAS.
I have mapped a button to SET STARTER 1 (HOLD) and it is working well. Hold the button for 3 seconds then release.
um so how do i translate this info into activating it ? in the sim ? sorry for sounding dumb
Thank you sooo much [MikeB54331] it was driving me nuts
So how was the bug fixed? i don’t get it.
Have you checked GEN is ON ?
yep, everything is done as the checklists suggest and yet after about 2 mins of flight the engine cuts and systems go off and everything flickers on and off.
Have you tried turning both ENGINE STRESS DAMAGE and AIRCRAFT STRESS DAMAGE to DISABLED in ASSISTANCE OPTIONS / FAILURE AND DAMAGE ?
It still does it. In fact took off out of Lodi, CA and the systems fail and the helicopter shuts off after like 3 minutes. I made sure all switches are turned on as i follow the checklist.
I’ve tried to take-off from 1O3 RW30 in order to check if, in any case, though I really doubt, the scenery environment was involved or not, with any potential in-sim scenery loading bottleneck, or other related issue, even if indeed there’s no logical reason, however I don’t get the specific mentioned issue from the thread title. Still in flight at the moment.
Do you think you can help me fix the issue if possible with the bell 407 helicopter thanks?
