Best cpu gpu combo for 1440p

What would be a good combo for the sim at 1440p high/ultra , i dont need more than 60 fps.

Also Is 32 gb of ram worth it?
Thanks

Assuming by ‘Best’ you mean 'Good performance without breaking the bank…"

AMD 7800X3D
240mm AIO CPU liquid cooler
nVidia 4070 Ti Super
32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR5-5600 RAM (faster RAM has a marginal improvement.)
2TB or 4TB NVMe M.2 drive (it WILL fill up faster than you think.)
1000W quality power supply (DO NOT cheap out on this component!)

I started my system out liquid cooling my CPU, but the GPU was dumping so much heat into my case I found it was worth it to convert to liquid cooling for my GPU, and go back to air cooling my CPU. I’m very happy with the results.

Disclaimer: It’s definitely more complicated (and expensive) to liquid cool a GPU.

Also… Common wisdom is that 32GB is ‘enough.’ And it is. But how will FS2024 use RAM? Would you be better off buying 64GB (2 x 32GB) of DDR5?
Who knows? You’ll be fine now with 32GB. Don’t buy 4 sticks of RAM. (4 x 8GB for example.) It’s tempting to do so, but it can cause problems with with memory latency.

3060Ti + 5600X. All high, some ultra. Around 50-60 fps + When it stutters its mostly because of serverload - nothing else.

That is quite a bit above my budget of around 1200-1300 and also factor in an around 10% above msrp price in basically everything

Now that I know your budget, I’ll see what I can come up with.

This is the best I could come up given your limited budget.
It’s still about $200 more than your max.

Knowing this sim, and the performance I get with my system, I really can’t recommend less than this. Hope this helps.

I already have a windows key
I can find a cheaper ssd (crucial p3 at 110 )
The 5800x3d is 270 where i live
I will buy a cheaper case(dont care about noise)
Motherboards are cheaper where i live (b550 at 90)
Im looking at the 7800xt at 530 or the 4070 at 570
It comes out to 1200
Thanks for the help

Sounds like you’re on the right track!
Make sure the case you choose has plenty of positive pressure ventilation.

I’m convinced a lot of the issues people have with the sim can be traced to excess heat.

Also, does the B550 you can get have WiFi 6 built-in? I think that’s really important unless you are only going to connect to your router wired. I looked specifically for that feature. TBH, my $100 MSI B550A-Pro doesn’t, but I added a $40 WiFi 6 adapter.

I would definitely go with the 7800XT as it has 16Gig of Vram and the 4070 only has 12Gig. MSFS loves Vram in DX12 and it helps provide a smoother sim experience. Not only is the 7800XT a little cheaper but it also slightly outperforms the 4070 - see review below.

AMD 7800XT vs Nvidia 4070

The AMD 7900gre is now getting world wide release. I haven’t seen MSFS specific comparisons yet, but reviews are putting it typically better than the 7800xt for only a bit more money. There seems to be a fair bit of excitement about it and a lot of speculation of being able to OC close to meeting 7900xt performance. May be worth trying to save up a bit extra for it if available in your area.

I have seen it drop to 600 in my country but i expect both it , and the 7800xt/4070 prices to drop

I already have a wifi card
And the case i have chosen seems good enough

You share information in small slices (Budget? Wifi? Case model?) leaving me to guess what advice would be helpful.

To be fair, though, you did originally just ask for a CPU/GPU combo, and I took it upon myself to think you needed more info than that.

It sounds like you are on the path to a good and complete system build. I wish you all the best.

Yeah no problem , sorry for the extra hassle

What GPU did you get? AMD is still behind in technological advancements. One of the main reasons I still go with NVIDIA.

Nvidia implementation of FG works great if not better than AMD’s offering as long you maintain native 60fps.

The 4070super biggest problem is the VRAM otherwise any Nvidia 40x with 16gb >> AMD 16gb but that’s likely outside your budget!

I havent bought it yet , im looking at around a month till i get it

I am curious about this. To me it seems logical to the point of an imperative to go for a wired connection on a (stationary) desktop computer. Wifi has improved over the years, but I just do not believe it can match wired for speed, stability and consistency. For a program such as MSFS that is so dependent on a solid data source, I personally would stay away from wireless unless absolutely unavoidable due to home layout restrictions. As I see it, wired eliminates just one more possible MSFS stability/consistency variable.

Thoughts, comments?

WiFi can’t match wired - that’s true. But a speedtest consistently shows 500 Mb/s over my Wifi 6 connection. That had better be good enough!

I’m in the broadcast video industry, and I always tell my clients to use a wired connection. But that’s because high-resolution IP video doesn’t tolerate packet interruption well (dropped frames and compression artifacts.) Sim files can use error correction that can smooth out the rough edges. That’s my thinking, anyway.

My pc is wired because I went a bit cheap on the mobo. Comparing results between it and my phone via a Wi-Fi 6 mesh system, there’s no perceptible difference between the two connections. Even ping time is close in bandwidth tests. Technically speaking, a wired connection is superior. Practically speaking, I think modern Wi-Fi systems have progressed to the point that it doesn’t matter for the typical person.
