Best options for screenshots?

Hi all.

Just looking for options to take screenshots in MSFS… I recently binned off the GeForce Experience (I really hated that app as it kept messing with my Flight Sim graphics settings!) so no longer have the ALT+F1 ability…

I tried the windows built in WIN+PRINT SCREEN, but I run two monitors - and it grabs both into the same file - so I have the FS screenshot and then my browser with flight plan, vPilot, and whatever else I may have open on my 2nd monitor which is not ideal either…

Finally, I looked up the old program Fraps - which I used to use back in the FS2004 days - and sadly it looks like the app hasn’t been updated since then - seemingly only to be supported up to Windows 7…

So - options for screenshots anyone??

Thanks in advance

Windows comes with a Game Bar which allows for taking screenshots and record the screen.
Not sure what the default shortcut is, but it can be changed in the control panel of windows in the game bar settings.
Note that Screenshots are saved in the Videos/Captures folder per default.

If you are using Steam, then F12

WIN + PRT SCREEN
or
WIN + SHIFT + S

I use prt scrn, paste into paint shop since I crop and name them anyway. What would be useful is an in game capture that stores the gps coordinates in the meta data or in the filename.

Steam is easiest if you bought it off that store. Just be sure you’re hitting F12 and not F8 in the heat of the moment, deploying full flaps is a real bummer at the wrong time. Set Pause key is your friend with Screenshots.

I use https://prnt.sc/ I can capture what I want, and then either save it locally, of sent it straight to an online Photo server, and get a link, to say put in forum or discord.

Beats
PrtScr,
Opening a Image program and saving it.
Then putting it up on some image server manually.

With https://prnt.sc/ I can go from Taking a cropped screen shot, to posting it, in about 5-10 seconds

win key & alt + prt screen (game bar, that captures the active game screen)

for video:
win key & alt + R key (game bar video recording toggle)

for the game bar settings:
Start menu > setting cog > gaming
you will then find the 4 pages relating to the game bar etc there

I use Active Pause and then just use the Windows Snipping Tool. You can copy pasts into the forum or use save.

I know there are easier ways, but I have used the Snipping Tools for year, at work, and old habits are hard to break.

I keep the Snipping Tool pinned in my Taskbar and it’s easily accessible from my other two monitors.

Nice thing about the Snipping Tool is that you can capture the entire screen or just a small portion.

Press print screen key then CTRL + V into Paint.

Done.

Try Bandicam

I’ve always used FSscreen. Still works today. Just press print screen and it saves to your chosen folder.

Any chance to bind a HOTAS key to take screenshot? I’m flying in VR and I don’t even know where the keyboard is…

You only get one capture per flight or you have to pause every single time. As said above, Winkey+Alt+PrtScn is the best option and it’s built into every default Windows 10 Home install.

Check out the Greenshot app - I set it up my own key combo - and that’s it. Now I just need to remember the nvme drive will fill up in no time if I don’t start being a little more discerning. PS Thanks, FlyCookie for pointing out Greenshot to me as a screenshot solution that really is easy to use, customize, and it works.

Using game bar, I chose alt+X that doesn’t impact with other keys on msfs, tested.

bjr j’utilise les touches windows +g

This solution is absolutely ideal - thank you very much! I’ve assigned the same ALT-F1 key combo to take screenshots in the Game Bar app, that I used to use in GeForce Experience so it’s like nothing really changed! Except that I don’t have that garbage GeForce Experience app installed any more!

Game Bar is automatically the best option for me as it’s the only one that works with HDR on. It also captures both HDR and SDR versions of the image so you have an easily sharable version of the shot too.

I’m beginning to wish I had bought mine from Steam instead of the Microsoft Store, just so I could use F12.
