So my space is limited but I’d really like to get a stand-alone throttle for MSFS. I’m really interested in the Logitech throttles but I’ve read about them sometimes being quite shaky in their readings. I’ve also thought about the honeycomb throttles but I’d have to rearrange my space quite a bit and they’re 400 Canadian dollars and I’ve read about questionable quality in the honeycomb throttles.
I’d love to hear from people in the community how they like the Logitech throttles or the honeycomb throttles.
Thanks so much all.
VKB GNX THQ (Throttle Quadrant).
Dimensions are 15 × 26 × 12 cm
Available in vertical or horizontal (tabletop) format.

If you don’t have another VKB device, to connect it in USB directly to the PC you’ll need to add the GNX USB Controller.

Without shipping cost it’ll be about US$ 90 for a very nice quality device.
No problems of shaking pots.
Short or long levers with three height positions on each.
Differents heads.
Adjustable travel resistance with a great feeling.
No detent, but eight buttons well placed under thumb.
No pre-binded profile, you can bind and set it as you prefer.
I really love mine.
If needed they also have a Multi-Functional Holder at $20, but I made it by myself with a metal plate and some screws.

The base is more like 14cm wide and 9,5 cm deep (12cm is probably including the levers or something?).
It’s a good suggestion (I have one too, attached to my omni-throttle which itself is bolted on a clamped mount), however one thing I wonder is table stability. These things are primarily intended to be used in set or attached next to a GNX, would just a single unit maintain acceptable table stability? (I’m not going to test on mine since I don’t want to attach the rubber pads.) At least in my case the clutch damper is still giving rather stiff resistance with the screw loosened all the way, at least on the short levers.
I figured I’d add on this since I initially thought they’d have MArS sensors, but they do have pots (500,000 cycle ones) on the axes. No jitter though, at least not yet but that might change down the line (though VKB might send you replacement pots if you ask them).
I have twin Logitech throttles. 2 years now. Never had an issue. They don’t ‘feel’ as solid as some other brands but the price is far less too.

I have multiple throttle systems depending on what I’m flying, but for pistons / turboprops I use the VirtualFly TQ6 ( Flight Sim Throttle Quadrant - TQ6 | Virtual Fly (virtual-fly.com).
It’s not huge, certainly compared to the honeycomb etc, it comes with a desktop mounting bracket, or you can bolt it down to another surface via four machine screw holes in the base. The action is really smooth, hall effect sensors so you don’t get the wobbliness of potentiometers, the lever tension is adjustable, and it’s all metal, so no wearing it out in a year. It has a detent area for each lever and (IIRC, I don’t have the sim open right now) there’s a button-press event when you enter the detent.
There are no ‘other’ controls like you have on the honeycomb, no extra buttons etc, it’s just a throttle quadrant and that’s it; but it works great for that. When I’m flying jets I have a Throttletek throttle quadrant, but you could fly jets with the TQ6 - just re-purpose the levers.
It’s not cheap, but I expect mine to last me 10 years easily, so I consider it a long-term expense.
(FWIW I also had two of the Saitek / Logitech throttle quadrants and they are shaky; the decoder boards do damp down the potentiometer noise quite a lot, I had to wire the pots directly to a Bodnar card at one point and they were so noisy they were unusable, but it doesn’t smooth things out so all levers are completely matched in each range. I wouldn’t go for them again.)
Dimensions are the ones on their website, and yes 12cm is the height with levers and heads.
For stability, I didn’t try with quadrant as is on my desk. Effectively with levers resistance I’m sure it will move. But on bottom side you have screw holes you can use.
I used a much more simple way. Srong double side tape to attach it on a metal plate. This plate is simply screwed on my desk, but there are many other ways to do this i.e. clamps or another piece of double side tape.
He said he wants a not too big quadrant at a fair price.
I really think this one is the best price/quality ratio and value for money.
It looks very nice and comes with Hall effect sensors, but I’m not sure it’s in CaptainStu price range ![]()
Yeah I know you took them from the website, they are just odd. They are too much even for the product package. This is much better:
OK, thanks for the drawing.
Yeah, I assumed as much given the comment about 400 Canadian dollars, but I figured a long-term investment may justify the pricing. It did for me.
For what’s it worth Fulcrum is also working on equivalent, and just like their yoke it’s going to be significantly cheaper than Virtual Fly’s: Fulcrum One Throttle – Coming Soon – Fulcrum Sim
Another vote for the VKB THQ here. It’s very small, and if you wanted to use it as a stand-alone it could fit in anywhere. As part of a mounted set, or even better when linked up to a VKB Gladiator it’s very manageable and cost effective.
I have mine linked to a Gladiator NXT Evo with the Side Extension module (flaps, gear + many buttons) and the FSM-GA autopilot panel also linked-up, and the whole thing is barely any larger than my old Thrustmaster HOTAS X.
Looks good, and I certainly like to support UK businesses, being from the UK myself. I would like to see a final production unit to compare it to the TQ6, but their production yoke looks good - though I think the buttons look clunky.
I bought my TQ6 from Aerosoft and it shipped from Germany but did not attract import duty, so it cost me around £600 (including shipping), which is considerably cheaper than you can buy it for directly from a UK supplier. By contrast, with UK VAT the Fulcrum TQ would be £420 plus the shipping cost which I’d estimate would be maybe £20, so let’s say £440-450. If it’s as good quality as the VirtualFly unit then it will be better value for sure.
I measured the width with the two standard sides:
14.4cm
Depth is 9.6cm
Height depends on levers used and their position in height.
Mines are at 9cm and max height is 12cm.
Last but not least, on vkb forum there is a very friendly Canadian moderator (username fallout9) who knows everything about their products.
Now we just have to wait for CaptainStu thoughts… ![]()
I have Honeycomb Alpha + Bravo set, and have no complaints whatsoever when it comes to build quality. I think they’re excellent value for money.
To unleash the full potential of the Bravo, however, I suggest SPAD.neXt or one of its competitors.
I am happy with my Honeycomb Bravo. Yes, it is big. But the customisability with different levers alone (plus the addons you can find on Etzy) and the fact that the unit has dedicated autopilot controls, some more switches and a trim wheel is worth it.
Hey there plumbglue67. Thanks for the reply. The VKB throttle system looks nice but is there any way to mount it to the desk ? That seems to be a major complaint of the throttle system on it’s own.
How long have you had it ?
The navigation controls look really nice.
Thanks you so much for your input.
Any pictures of how you mounted your vkb to your desk would be appreciated.
If you can’t do it by yourself, as said in my first post you can use this:
https://vkbcontrollers.com/?product=gnx-mfh-multi-function-holder
It greatly depends on how you need to use it. If it can stay on your desk, a simple piece of double sided tape will be enough.
If you need to clear your desk between two simming sessions, you’ll need to think about it, i.e. clamps to attach the holder to the desk. But it will be the same with another quadrant.
I have had it for a year now with full satisfaction.
I will send you a picture tomorrow, but I’m not sure you’ll see a lot as I also have differents devices attached together.
