Best tool to see FPS?

Hello pilots,

What’s the best tool to know the FS2024 framerate (excepting debug mode) with graph please ?

Thanks a lot
Cheers

Do you use Steam? There is an FPS overlay option.

RTSS works well.

CapFrameX

It’s not a realtime tool, but you can capture FPS and latency data over time, including P99, Median, P1 (1% low) and even P0.1 (0.1% low) and see the results in several different graphical forms. I find it very useful (even moreso than a realtime meter.)

Here’s an example of one of my tests, showing latencies (Frametimes in the L-shape graph) and FPS in the bar graph. The temp monitor is an OpenHardwareMonitor gadget that sits on top on the desktop, and not part of CapFrameX. The tabs at the top let you see the actual variances in FPS and latency as the sim was running during the test.

In-built driver tools don’t work? AMD driver has an overlay feature which works pretty well.

Edit: oh with graphs… Not sure if that would work.

Every application affects the performance of MSFS so don’t waste time searching the internet. Instead, use Developer Mode and enable “show FPS”.

I have used all of the tools listed above and actually really like intel presentmon….clean display, light on cpu and I can drag the window around and put it exactly where I want it. Before that I used the nvidia app overlay but it wasn’t as flexible on where to put it. RTSS (riva tuner) is also good and very flexible but harder to setup and I had to watch a few YouTube videos to figure out how to make it show what I wanted as the user interface is not easy to figure out. The msfs dev mode counter is helpful but way to large and you can’t move it off to the side so it’s unusable during a flight and I only look at it when trying to check the impacts of changing a graphic setting as it blocks a huge part of the screen.

Afterburner, which uses RTSS as the core, is pretty straightforward to configure the basic stats display, and it’s also got a number of options down in the settings to minimize the impact of monitoring on the system itself including enabling or disabling low-level hardware monitoring (which can affect stability on some systems but is much faster/lower impact), and changing the sampling and display interval. For instance, for flight sim, there’s no need to monitor 10 times a second or whatever - just set it to check once every second or two. Also, you can specify if you want the data logged, displayed or both, log some stats but display others, or whatever you want really. It’s not hard at all and if configured properly, very low impact.
