I honestly hope so.
Because i cant wait for this to be out but without VR it is a no-go for me as i fly exlusively in VR.
Same hereā¦
Once you launch the app though there is no need to use the panel as everything is voice controlled.
When there is no need for the panel, why is it there then?
Of course you need the panel. In VR even more than in 2D as you cannot take notes of the taxi routes or frequencies like in 2D.
And as far as I understood, the panel is working like a scratchpad by showing you the cleared taxi route.
A great feature that you dont need in 2D as much as you need in in VR.
And as they put time and effort in developing the panel, i am sure it has some use. And as it is payware I cannot justify spending any money on an app that i cannot use in all aspects because it does not support my game mode.
So i really hope, that there will be a mod soon after launch ro bring the panel to VR.
I didnāt say it has no purpose - sure it has plenty of uses - but you can fly the sim and use the atc without - the same way as in real life you donāt have stuff displayed magically in front of you.
Making things work as āin simā panels is not simple, just the nature of the way Asobo implemented them. Yes if its ultimately a web app like many fs apps are (i.e. electron apps etc) - you can use iframes to show it - this isnāt a web app.
So down the road maybe a web view of the panel will be possible or a full WASM module but will be a significant amount of extra dev.
Itās doable for sure and Iām sure it will be. Flow and Sky4Sim manage it fine.
To be sure a panel isnāt necessary and Iām looking forward to re-sharpening my ATC skills - I actually used to be an RT instructor many moons ago, helping student pilots with the daunting task of speaking to the ATC āgodsā.
But age is now beginning to catch up and the unrealistic taxi clearances through every single waypoint are next to impossible to remember, no matter read back.
Maybe Beyond ATC will give us āprogressive taxiā clearances, or at least only as far as the next holding point.
I am not a programmer but i would be very surprised if making a toolbar panel would be hard to do for a professional developer considering the many freeware developers that have created them.
All it would take is a toolbar panel that is displaying the information that is shown in the external window in 2D.
So as ling as BATC will have this information accessible in some way, someone will come up with a solution that reads those values and displays them in a simple toolbar panel if BATC is not willing to provide one themselves.
As soon as this is availabale, i will get it. Cant wait, to be honestā¦
You just replied to one of the programmers working on BATC, so what he wrote can be relied on.
Unrealistic taxi clearances are a feature of the Asobo ATC and one expects that BATC will fix that as well.
Of course we can rely on what he says.
But i felt like he is talking about a fully functional panel when he wrote āmaking thibgs work as āin simā panels is not simpleā
Thats why i wanted to clarify, that all it needs is a visual readout of the ATC clearances. This is no witchcraft to do.
Of course making a fully functional toolbar panel would be a different beast that can be avoided, as BATC will provide voice control.
You can vote for the suggestion here, itās second on the list so Iām confident they are aware of the demand.
Seems like my multiplayer idea is already considered⦠and rejected. Too bad, seems like the procedure to follow will be IF vatsim_coverage = true THEN atc == vatsim ELSE atc == batc
Batc as a network you could log into and fly with real-time traffic + multiplayer remains either a dream or a consideration for muuuuuuuch later
Sounds promising ⦠but a bit expansive (15-20 USD per month)
- expensive
- only works in the US
- no traffic injection, so AI planes probably will ignore it.
Edit:
(- IFR only)
- VFR only
You meant to say VFR only?
correct. Thanks!
A good year-end read from Captain
Iām very hyped for this atc. I canāt wait for them to release it. I hope there are no delays and we can have it in this 2024
