BeyondATC

Yeah, I thought maybe zapping aircraft taxiing to the runway would clear the problem but nope. Very odd, only seldom encountered it. On a side note landing the ATR at Newquay just now with a 27kt headwind gusting to 38kts was quite fun haha.

News from BATC

Hello everyone,

:rocket: It’s here — BeyondATC Live Traffic has arrived!

A little while ago we shared that we’d been working with Navigraph to bring real-world live traffic (near real time anyway!) into BeyondATC, powered by their new data from FlightRadar24. Today we’re thrilled to say it’s landing in our experimental build!

:open_book: Full details + how to set it up: Live Traffic (Experimental Feature) - BeyondATC Help Center
Please give this a read before diving in — it covers exactly what Live Traffic does, what it doesn’t, and how to get connected.

The important bits:

Where to find it: Available only in the Experimental build to begin with, which is exclusive to owners of the Supporters Edition. As we continue to refine it, it will roll out to the EA build for everyone in due course.
What you need: A linked Navigraph account with an active Unlimited subscription — this is what provides the live traffic data.
Still completely optional: Live Traffic is an entirely optional extra. Our schedule-based traffic remains included in your one-time purchase, because we’re still fully committed to keeping core features subscription-free.

:sparkles: Live Traffic is launching in the experimental build first so we can keep polishing and refining it with real-world feedback before it moves across to EA. It’s in great shape — and your input now will help us make it even better.

:speech_balloon: So please jump in, give it a go, and let us know how you get on — what works brilliantly, and anything you’d like to see improved.

Thanks for being part of the journey. Happy flying! :airplane:

Minor Version 1.9.13 Experimental

:vertical_traffic_light: Live Traffic in conjunction with Navigraph!
This is the big one - Live Traffic is now available for Navigraph Unlimited subscribers!

Getting started is only two steps:

  1. Go to the Accounts page - you will see a Navigraph link option - link your Unlimited Navigraph account.
  2. Go to Options - near the traffic sliders there is a Live Traffic toggle - turn it on.
Then start your flight using live sim time.

:gear: Other Improvements

  • Traffic movement substantially reworked, now smoother and take off and landing judder should be gone. With less sudden jumps down to or up from the runway.
  • Traffic now slows down earlier as it enters gates and pulls to a stop more slowly.
  • Reworked the traffic waypoint matcher to better handle waypoints / vors that have duplicated names globally often the cause of traffic appearing in the wrong part of the world.
  • Traffic map considerably reworked - icons, overlay data, zooming and data formats.
  • Reduced the max RAM local voices can consume.
  • Update more of our traffic routing to be based on recent real world flight plans
  • Improvement for pathing to the runway when scenery has missing hold shorts
  • Latest pronunciation and airline data

:lady_beetle: Bug Fixes

  • Fix a NAT waypoint format mapping error that could cause those waypoints to be ignored for traffic routing.
  • Fix STAR selection for traffic being wrong for some airports, particularly in the UK.
  • Fix mid-taxi departures potentially appearing on a runway.
  • Fix approach traffic not always being in the right state - so not being held for, or not having gear down.
  • Fix more taxi aircraft deadlocks
  • Fix Bravo ATG models not shutting down engines once parked.
  • Remove extra whitespace in ICAO callsigns that could make voices say them more slowly.
  • Fix the occasional delay between callsign words for WestJet and SkyWest
  • Fix a race condition where a traffic aircraft could be left in the sim, no longer managed by BATC and not visible on the taxi or traffic map.
  • Fix the toolbar and traffic map potentially causing judder in BeyondATC traffic display
  • Fix BATC becoming unresponsive / hanging particularly with heavy traffic and both the traffic map and toolbar active.
  • Local voices were not always using the custom pronunciations from the pilot portal, now fixed.
  • Fix some fatal errors in string utils raised since EA / Exp builds.
  • No longer issue climb via SID for altitudes less then 3000 feet
  • Fix the version selector drop down in the accounts page not matching the version you already have

Full details regarding live traffic in BeyondATC at Live Traffic (Experimental Feature) - BeyondATC Help Center

Please take a moment to give it a read, so you have the full picture of what Live Traffic in BeyondATC is — and what it isn’t. We hope you enjoy this new dimension to your traffic experience!

This is awesome! I cannot wait to try it out tonight!

What is the pilot portal?

It’s Pilot portal on their website
I have never used it. You login on BATC and go into the pilot portal. It links to your BATC account.

Add or correct airline callsigns (including virtual airlines).

Submit custom pronunciations for VORs, SIDs, STARs and procedures so the AI says them correctly.

Suggest airport-specific operational data such as SOPs and wind/runway operations.

Submit changes that are reviewed by the BATC team and, if approved, become available to all users.

No way!?

I need to fix a number of pronunciations that are whack.

Same. I’m sick of hearing a mumbled “duhpnt” for “dew point” with the UK voices.

Oh, and “Born ne mouth” for Bournemouth was another recent one.

So far loving the updated version with the navigraph FR24 live traffic. Traffic is pretty much on point

Random check shows pretty accurate live traffic

I don’t know what it is BUT the new live traffic with Navigraph seems to have much better performance - my BATC traffic used to stutter terribly and now it is suddenly super smooth - sliders still all at 6 and in VR. I am extremely happy with this BATC update feature.

Look at the patch notes. Could be:

  • Traffic movement substantially reworked, now smoother and take off and landing judder should be gone. With less sudden jumps down to or up from the runway.

1 flight so far. Worked great!!

Had a great flight today from KHOU to KMIA. Everything worked as expected. The only thing was being handed off from Houston Center to Houston Oceanic and from Miami Center to Miami Oceanic.

How do I get this working?

You need to launch the traffic map from the BATC UI, there’s a new icon for it.

The traffic map is not a separate software anymore, it’s included in BATC installation, which is why the standalone version is not working anymore.

Well, I tried a flight in a Fenix A319 from Liverpool to Dublin last night using the new traffic feature with Navigraph and everything appeared to work well
until I switched to VR mode while awaiting pushback at the gate and suddenly another plane was rendered over the top of mine. My view out of the cockpit was the inside of that plane. Remember, in VR mode you cannot see the BATC airport map screen or even the original program window so all you have is the toolbar controls which doesn’t give you the ability to remove a plane. Someone said you could remove a plane in GSX but I have no idea where that option is. Anyway, I couldn’t get the pushback triggered so I went out of VR mode and magically the other plane disappeared and I was able to pushback. One away from the gate I put my Quest 3 back on and boom, that plane reappeared in front of me. Why would traffic be different in VR mode compared to 2D? Please don’t tell me to go to Discord for support. I will not have that software on my computer.

Sounds like you might have different in-game settings for parked aircraft between 2D and VR modes.

Oh I hadn’t considered that. Recently reinstalled the Nvidia app and that stupid thing has this tendency to alter sim settings. I know I turned them off in 2D and usually that controls both. I reinstalled the Nvidia app not to help MSFS but my installation of Grounded 2 which turned into a slide show for me.
