That’s weird because BATC always sends me to the expected departing runway (I usually check active runways on FR24). Do you correctly fill in the departing runway + corresponding SID (if available) on Simbrief before generating your flight plan?
On a related note (Departure RW), this was added in yesterday’s update:
- Added the active runway as a UI info box to IFR clearances, even if it is procedure not to speak the active departure runway in the clearance.
This is nice for getting your FMC set up with the RW prior to taxiing, without having to change things up.
Yes, would sure be nice to be able to request a landing RW. I was flying into KIAD yesterday, ATIS said landing RW 19 L/C/R, but ATC directs me to RW 30, which has no instrument procedures (only Visual), is almost never used IRL for landing (usually it’s takeoffs only), it was rainy and marginal VFR, and had a tail/crosswind.
But it’s still a work in progress.
Yes, of course. And also commonly happen to me what @SteveKane said in his post when I have to land. For that reason I hope they implement runway changes soon.
Something interesting I discovered yesterday about the active runway.
I’m not yet a BATC user and I normally generate an OFP in Simbrief and import a pln file into MSFS, so that the integrated ATC knows where I’m planning to fly. This has always resulted in the same departure runway being selected by ATC.
However, yesterday, after this did not happen, I found that something had reset my Assistance options, including one that, if I’m understanding it correctly, appears to allow ATC to override the active runway.
This shouldn’t be causing the BATC issue, as I suspect that BATC just gets its information directly from Simbrief, but it couldn’t hurt to make sure that this option is not selected.
I can’t be sure why my assistance options suddenly decided to adjust themselves, but I did previously have a CTD, so I guess something odd might have happened there? Oh well.
What are the daily updates …and do they make a difference ?
they post the changelogs in their discord.
suppose that’s up to you to decide once you’ve read through what they have changed
No change to the feature set so far.
Can someone please explain to me where the AI is in BATC.
Or is the Forum heading just Click-Bait ?
As I understood it, it’s online. But it only generates the voices, nothing more.
Yeah the latest buzz-word (or buzz-acronym) gets bandied about far too liberally at the moment all over the place.
This is Speech Recognition and Pathing Logic. Not AI at all. Unless AI stands for Almost Impressive here? The computer generated voices are not really AI either in my opinion.
Yes, the “AI” part of BeyondATC is the voices, presumably both translating and parsing what the pilot says, as well as generating the Premium voices. The actual routing, vectoring, etc. is all “rules based”.
SayIntentions uses AI for everything, which is why it’s more expensive (and often slower to respond to calls.)
At least this is how I interpret everything I’ve read.
This was my post from last year when I first heard about this program and before it was explained how AI would be used. Definitely not meant as “click bait” because there was little to no information about this addon back then.
You know as the Topic Author, you can change Topic Title, if you feel it is incorrect or now outdated, and an edited tittle would better represent the content of YOUR Forum Thread.
Thanks for that reminder. I change the title so hopefully you or anyone else won’t mistake it for click bait as that was not the intention. ![]()
I apologize I said “Click bate” - that was not really what it was.
But sinec you posted the Topic, a lot has more details have emerged about just how AI some of these ATC programs really are. ![]()
Its my understanding Beyond ATC uses live weather data from VATSIM ie NOAA and not MSFS live weather. Not sure where SIMBRIEF weather comes from. Can anyone advise whether this is correct or not?
My impressions so far for anyone considering buying or not:
It took me about 3 flights for me to get the hang of it. Talking back to the game is new to me, but now I am pretty good at it.
I have flown around 2 dozen flights so far.
It gave me a great feeling of accomplishment to go from C&D to parking at destination all while in communication with ATC.
Never once has it crashed, locked up or failed in any way.
It has never sent me in the wrong direction and has flown through SID & Star fine.
After about 15 flights, the novelty began to wear off and it’s scripted nature is becoming evident.
As someone mentioned earlier in this thread, there isn’t much AI to it. If our responses or request haven’t been anticipated and programmed, then it will “Not recognize” your request or response. It isn’t “Intelligent”.
It has become rather predictable.
It is much better than stock ATC. It doesn’t shut off during a flight. The voices, even the free ones, sound really nice.
Is it worth $30.00 ? I say YES. It has been great fun and has breathed new life into a game that had become stale for me. The developers have updated it several times since release, with no regressions that I have noticed,
YMMV
