Older news from early to mid June, but I don’t think many people realize that Version 2 of BIKF Keflavik, Iceland also now includes a rendition of BIRK Reykjavik (downtown) airport as well!
Great for those flying smaller aircraft, and it’s located right downtown, next to the main/central cathedral. Also works great with the extensive Iceland overhaul freeware at the .to library!
I was recently revisiting Iceland after doing some updates and populating the country with all of the releases within the last year of airports (BIAR in the WU, plus Egilsstader and Vestmannaeyjar payware) and noted that BIRK is now custom and fairly nice.
I love flying the higher latitudes of the world (Alaska, Canada, Scandinavia, etc) and Iceland has so far been missing in my flights. Now the Keflavik airport by MK-Studios is on sale on SimMarket. I don’t have the V1 version.
How is it? I’ve never done many flights in Iceland so I need to see if I have time to try some out before the sale ends. It seems though, that the airport itself is rather unremarkeble? Located far away from the more beautiful locations of iceland, and the airport itself seems very spread out with few interesting bits and pieces.
That said, I did just acquire the iFly 737 max so IcelandAir seems perfect for that. I also enjoy GA flying. Thanks!
It doesn’t feel up to MK’s 2024 standard but I think that’s down to the real-world airport being, as you suggest, rather unremarkable and boring. It’s a remote place… and it certainly feels it in the sim! It has come alive for me, though, following the iFly’s release!
How is MK-Studios BIKF v2 with MSFS 2020? I’m still on MSFS 2020 for the time being and enjoy flying in the northern latitudes during the winter. Is this worth getting with the Marketplace sale?
Fine for me on Series X. Haven’t been there in about a month or so. I had no issues with v1 and did not really compare v1 to v2, just made the upgrade. MK-Studios has been turning out some of the best airports for my Xbox over the past year or so, so one of the brands I trust most.
I spend most of my time flying in Iceland and v2 works great. Also includes an enhanced Reykjavik downtown airport. Everything seems to work well with the usual Iceland mods on .to such as Overhaul, though I recommend also downloading one of the two V2-compatible GSX profiles from .to as without them I had GSX yelling at me about an incompatible airport for some reason.
Overall looks great and accurate based on my real world experience at the airport.
