Cannot believe you want to encourage coastal erosion with their removal. Groynes, Gabions and Seawalls FTW! 
These black lines are frustrating. I notice them most in the estuaries of large rivers and for the first time yesterday, I saw a dirty great big, dark square off the northern coast of Crete near Chania.
