Black screen, but with UI elements visible

:white_check_mark: SIM INFORMATION

  • Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 or 2024: MSFS 2024

  • Version Build Number: 1.1.7.0

  • Game Platform (Example: Steam, Xbox, MS Store): MS Store

:white_check_mark: ISSUE DESCRIPTION

  1. Did you remove all your community mods/add-ons? If yes, are you still experiencing the issue?

    • Yes, I have no community mods/add-ons installed.
  2. Description of the issue:

    • Upon launching the game via the Xbox app on PC, the game displays the splash screen followed by the “XBOX Game Studios” logo. After this, the screen stays black. Exiting the game forcefully generates an error message indicating a problem with the graphics device (Error: S_OK (0x0)). I left the game for the day. Next day, I could initially access some UI elements about narration and graphics settings, but the background remained black. Attempting to start Free Play resulted in a black screen with audio, making the game unplayable. Subsequent attempts to launch the game result in a black screen after the logo, with no UI appearing

:white_check_mark: FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

  • Every time on sim load.

:white_check_mark: REPRODUCTION STEPS

  1. Launch Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 via the Xbox app on PC.
  2. Observe the splash screen and “XBOX Game Studios” logo.
  3. Notice the screen turns black, and no further UI is accessible.
  4. Forcefully exit the game to see the error message.

The previous graphics driver can be solved!
566.03-desktop-win10-win11-64bit-international-dch-whql

I have exactly the same problem and have tried everything!

What sort of hardware are you running? If you have Nvidia, did you try rolling back to 566.03-desktop-win10-win11-64bit-international-dch-whql, like CSC3U8633 is suggesting? I have not gotten around to it yet myself.

I’m also having this problem. UI is all there, sound is there, but no 3D graphics including on the initial scree and on the Free Flight screen. Airports are all there, but the graphic of the globe is not.

Have that exact same problem. On the Free Flight screen, I can actually move the map around and I can see a blurred version of it shine through the window-like UI elements such as the Departures and Arrivals gizmo.

Outside of these elements, everything is black except for the airport markers.

Funny to see people complain about missing sounds. The SINGLE ONE time the sim managed to “finish” loading a free flight - as indicated by the bottom-right button - sound was the ONLY thing that was working, the screen was completely black.

Edit: Rolled back to the 566.03 driver. But I cannot test it, because it’s again impossible to even load the menu. The servers are spitting out occasional snippets of data at up to 80 KBit/s. (Yes, KILO-Bits.)

Edit 2: Managed to get to the Menu and Free Flight screen using the 566.03 driver. Still have the same exact problem.

Edit 3: SUCCESS !!! I’m now on the 566.14 STUDIO Driver (not the “Game Ready” one). For the first time, I’m seeing the background video during loading, and get to see the progress bar during all phases of loading, instead of only during loading of Sim Objects and World Data. The menu proudly shows our home planet, and the Free Flight screen has a working map in it!

I will try loading my very first flight now, with what appears to be a functioning renderer.

Did it work?

Did you reinstall the game after changing the driver? I have the exact same problem, I tried restarting it but it’s giving me the exact same problems. I don’t even know how to report it to microsoft ((

I had the same problem. I solved it for me by clicking on restore in the Nvidea control panel under global

Nope, didn’t reinstall, but I may have “repaired” and “reset” the sim (Store version) in “Apps and Features”.

Moved to User Support Hub Install, Performance & Graphics since a solution has been marked.

Happening here to, tryed everything, nothing worked

My sim just went the same way today. It was working, now it’s just a black screen paper weight.

I’ve got a similar issue. Everything is black but I can see the blue loading bar on the startup. Then after the loading is complete, I see nothing but a black screen. I don’t even see UI elements…

I’ve only managed to solve it with a Windows recovery, dont consider that as an afordable solution, but worked zzz

Same to me, nothing worked, it seems entering in developer mode, that it miss some files as:
-[Coherent GT] Failed to load file vfs:///c:/users/(myusername)/appdata/local/packages/microsoft.limitless_8wekyb3d8bbwe/localstate/(my username)
-[Coherent GT] Failed to locate file vfs:///html_ui/efb_ui/efb_os/js_bingmap_efb_atlas_1
This AIRPORT is in a different QMID than the ICAO index list thinks.

(i thinlk that atlas is the world seen in the main page)
