You can bind increase/decrease VS and it will work. I have special profile for my KA with those buttons assigned.
Will it be releases in marketplace?
Well, I do actually own both the PMS50 and the TDS but the problem is that
– with the TDS the autopilot seems to work using the standard KAP140 autopilot with all the annoying bugs,
– with the PMS50 + WTT most of these bugs are fixed I guess but I can’t do a coupled RNAV approach.
So neither works really well. If I knew that they rely on the standard autopilot, I wouldn’t have bought the King Air, I think. What’s the point of having super-realistic systems with every circuit breaker model if you leave a very important system that you need in every flight (the autopilot) buggy? I hope, this gets fixed.
What are the annoying bugs? I basically only use CLB mode for climb. For descent I just press ALT SEL, then press VS and click the DN button (each click is 100 ft) and then it captures my altitude.
NAV and or APPR works fine too.
Thanks @MiffedHorse826
Good catch
What does clicking ALT SEL do for you? IRL, yes you need to press it, but it doesn’t light the ALT SEL annunciator or really have any affect on vertical modes on my machine. I sent a ticket to JF, suggested a click spot for the UP/DN switch on the main panel. The HDG/CRS knobs on the main panel are already fictional, might as well finish the deal!
If I select the GTN (left) and CTL-22 (right) options I find that the right side of the GTN screen becomes unresponsive to clicks (TDS GTNxi). JF suggested that I remove the WT GNS package, and that did fix the problem.
But… I use the WT GNS package in a lot of other aircraft. Does anyone know of a workaround for this so that I don’t have to un-install the WT GNS every time I fly the King Air?
Was expecting the long overdue update to be out immediately after release of AAU1 but all’s quiet on that front.
Honestly I am bit disappointed about Black Square’s King Air and would not purchase it anymore at that price…
The last couple of weeks I have been flying the PMDG 737 but before that the BS King Air and I was really enjoying it with the FTsim sound mod.
Yes, it’s not cheap but, that aside, I’m wondering why you regret the purchase
I am very particular when it comes to aircraft and I am enjoying the Analog King Air (I will explain why…this post became an impromptu review) but I definitely do understand why some people might be disappointed. Paid mods for stock aircraft are a complicated value proposition.
The product page does promise quite a lot, while glossing over the fact that the autopilot implementation is just a shell for the stock KAP 140. You could get other, more polished add-ons for less money (SWS Kodiak is 30EUR, FSW C414 is $40 for example). But, I had the Analog Caravan before so I came in with a clear idea of what the King Air mod would and would not be.
I think that the dev did a pretty good job with the systems. Not 100% accurate in every regard, but quite good depth for as much as I’ve explored. He did a good job improving the flight dynamics while working within stock constraints…but problems with the stock turboprop flight model mean that without a WASM module it is being held back in terms of engine operation (beta/reverse specifically).
The stock B350 3D model is not up to the same standard as the Caravan, IMO. The bump map is almost imperceptible, the distinctive white beacons are red LEDs for some reason, and the tail strobe flashes with the nav lights. And obviously you don’t have opening doors etc. That is not a fault of the Black Square mod, per se, but it’s something a buyer needs to understand. I have no problems with the cockpit model provided by Black Square. The panel lighting is nice.
The stock sound on the Caravan is passable to me, but the King Air’s is lacking. I had a legacy P3D sound pack I was able to drop in and I’m quite happy with that (FTSim wasn’t for me).
The autopilot is the biggest unresolved issue, I think. Some improvement is really needed considering this class of aircraft and how busy it is to fly single pilot. I don’t use WTT (I have the TDS GTN) so I can’t comment on those issues. The AP can do all the basic operations but it’s quirky. When I engage the AP, it dumps all the modes I pre-selected for the FD…that is telltale behavior of the stock KAP140 logic.
I used some JF rewards when I bought the King Air, so it was $27 for me, and that’s OK value. At $40 with the current problems, I’m not so sure.
Same, also regret that I purchased this plane/mod.
That the devs are not issuing patches for bugs that are known for weeks is really disappointing.
Try it…I don’t have any issues
Someone mentioned their AP wasn’t able to capture a glide path on an RNAV approach. I just successfully flew an RNAV approach down to minimums on AP just fine. I’m using the PMS 750 with the working title compatibility package from PMS.
Yes, sorry, my bad. The error here was on my side. I now also managed to fly an RNAV approach with the autopilot and the glidepath shown on the HSI (PMS50 + WTT). So this configuration is then the best for me (although I would slightly prefer the TDS in terms of GTN alone) as the WTT mod fixes some/most of the autopilot bugs.
I find the Caravan more enjoyable. The King Air is a beautiful, majestic twin, but the visibility isn’t the best - fore and the side, and the AP is quirky. I do manage to mash enough buttons to get it to (eventually) follow my wishes.
Funny that I really wanted the analog King Air and only bought the Caravan as something to whet my appetite. Now that I have both, I find the Caravan the better of the two. I would undone if someone could make a float version.
Hello everyone, @rolinuss @CaptainK454555
I received a mail from BS today, telling me he s very sorry for the users expecting for a faster update, and announcing me they finally achieved the work on the GNS 530 WT compatibility, a major update should show up soon for both aircraft (analog 208 and King air).,
As I understood, it seems like the new WT package came with ton of issue to address for this kind of hot swappable avionics setup, requiring the help and work of an enlarged dev team. I Hope everyone will understand that it wasn’t easy in many aspect.
to be sure that I didn’t misrepresent his remarks, will share with you directly Nick’s words :
I will be releasing major updates for the Caravan and King Air soon, as we finally have the Working Title GNS530 playing well with the other GPS units in the Black Square aircraft. That was a long and painful process that took many months of cooperation between four different developers. […] the update really is forthcoming now, and that I’m sorry it’s taken so long. Many aspects of this were out of my hands, but all the other parties were very helpful and made changes to their products to support hot-swapping avionics.
I would be glad to give more details on this incoming updates, but I don’t have access to them or part of the changelog, so I can’t say more than the WT aspect.
Hope this will comfort everyone
Great to hear that an update is on the way
From your post it looks like BS met a few challenges along the way so as far as I’m concerned ‘it’s out when it’s out’. No problem.
It’s nice to hear that it’s coming though
Yes it does comfort me and thank you for all your efforts.
Awesome! Looking forward to the update.
I’ve got both the WT GNS AND the TDS stuff installed.
There was a very recent TDS update (use the TDSGPSManager exe) that specifically addresses Carenado and Black Square GNS/GTN compatibility issues. Maybe this will solve your issue.
Also I was thinking about this clickspot thing the other day - are you using Legacy or Lock mouse interaction? I’m using Legacy - wonder if that makes any difference.
