Both of these aircraft are used for different purposes obviously, but in terms of value for your money and overall enjoyment, which do you prefer? They’re about the same price (T-6A is slightly more expensive) and both have gotten good reviews from what I see online.
I only have the C310, and haven’t used it much, so, I can’t give you much information about the quality differences of the planes.
But, given, as you noted, the planes are so varied in their purposes, and completely different engine systems (recip vs turboprop), etc., it would be helpful to understand something about what might guide you to your own choice. You’re obviously considering both, what planes do you have now? Do you already have a lot of twin engine experience? Are you looking for that? How many Turboprops do you own? Are you looking to learn how to fly them vs recip engines? I’m going to imagine the T-6A is aerobatic, are you looking for that experience? Are you exploring military flight training and want to learn about that?
Similar range, C310 carries more people, Texan II is way faster and better visibility… What’s your fancy?
I never installed the 310 when I moved to 2024 but having the T-6A was essential. There are plenty of much better twins for 2024 than the 310 but there is nothing like the T-6A.
Thank you for your response! I’m looking for a higher quality plane since I don’t normally spend more than 30USD on add-ons. I have multiple twin engine pistons, including the Carenado twin pipers. I also have turboprops, including the SimWorks Kodiak 100 and PC-12.
I fly a lot of old warbirds too, but obviously those aren’t turboprop.
so in other words, I want an add-on with higher levels of depth and detail.
The Dukes, the Barons, the Aerostar - take your pick. The 310 is really quite dated now, I think. As for the T-6A, it is hard work but so rewarding to fly. I think the sensation of flight is as good as it gets in MSFS. But it will bite you if you are not careful.
Given the choice between only these to blackbird products…. I would wait. Both are currently under 2024 upgrade development…. Once they are out it depends and what you want.
The c310 is typically used as a twin trainer and its systems are designed that way. Take the basics of a single trainer and add a second engine to manage. I loved flying it in 2020, it was fairly basic and didn’t provide much depth.
The T6 is a single engine turbo prob trainer. Typically used by Air Force’s after initial flight training just before transiting to jets. The short wings make its somewhat unstable and you really have to be on your toes or it will bite you in backside. It was fun to fly in 2020 and the nav system is fairly accurate to what you find in the real aircraft. I used to practice aerobatics, which I now do in the Spitfire (my fav warbird).
So up to you. Maybe get both? But I’d wait until the updated version drop so you don’t have to “pay twice”.
Well, in my opinion they are two different planes with different qualities. I have flown the real 310 so I naturally love that one, but love the tandem seating and turbo prop of the trainer. I have the 310R and the PC-21 for MSFS 2024 and like them both. Good luck.
It will take a very long time for these to be brought to 2024 as native, if ever. I’ve not seen that confirmed anywhere. But if the T6 ever does, I would be more than happy to pay for the upgrade even though it works very well in 2024 for me already.
So now I think I’m between the Blackbird C310 and the Blacksquare B58. I already have the Carenado B55 which I know is much less complex of a sim and also the plane itself is a smaller variant, but I still feel like I’m buying the same plane twice whereas I don’t have any C310.
I can’t speak to the T6A, because I don’t have it (yet?). The 310 is nice, it flew great in 2020, and the few times I’ve flown it in 2024 were a good experience.
Having said that, between the Blackbird 310 and the Black Square Baron, I’d go Baron all the way. I don’t use Black Square’s simulation to its fullest (failures, etc) but those planes are just a vibe for me that I don’t get in any other planes. It’s also worth considering that for a little extra money (US $5 or so?) you get a plane with 3 variants.
TBH, I really think this is a question with no wrong answer. I like both devs, I like both planes, I just fly one a heck of a lot more for some reason I can’t put my finger on. If you leave this thread up another day or two before making a purchase, I’m sure a few folks will come in and tell you why they’d buy the 310. Heck, I think I’ll fly it tonight.
