Shrike is a subdivision of MilViz/Blackbird, in case you didn’t know.
And they’ve already struggled through getting the C310 up to speed on the avionics, through which I’m sure they learned a lot about getting it to work. Published documentation is one thing, but knowing how to implement things is a whole other battle.
@NightMercury358 has been at full bore on the S330/360, has obviously investigated the new avionics and decided to wait on putting the time in to implement it in any of his planes. And I totally understand his position.
Well glad it worked for you, I wonder though is it using the real WT GNS 530 or the old 530. It is all so confusing. In any case the Dev IMHO has issues, I understand his predicament, but I will never understand his attitude towards my post.
Hopefully this all gets sorted in time, but for me I’m out on this one, and this dev. We are now waiting for stuff from AAU2 when the issue lays with AAU1 so my mind boggles and its too much energy, Many other planes have just worked with the new 530GNS, I have no idea and sadly I no longer care.
I will not be buying anything again until I know what GPS it uses, if it uses a GPS. The sad part of all this in this case, is 2 great products that should work together and do not. I just do not want to be flying around with the old/default/launch (whatever it is called) GPS it was total rubbish and unrealistic and so many issues that just puts me off.
Anyway hope this all works out.
Yes, I did know that actually, so perhaps a little disingenuous to suggest they are a new developer, more like a new brand. I’ll keep an eye on some reviews, but I’m not sure about this one.
It’s definitely using the new WT GNS with its boot up sequence, satellite signal screen etc. I guess for comparison the question for you is do you have the main WT GNS package, GNS linker package and version 2.1.2 of the Islander installed? If yes then perhaps a community folder conflict?
Thanks I will look at this,
I have many many Pay ware add-ons, but no mods, No Freeware PMS, not even the PMS GTN which I do own, I have no other avionics Mods for planes, nothing.
I have the TDS GTN750, I do have the official base WT Package installed, but I have removed via the content manager, the WT Market place version I think it is like 26KB, I did have the latest BN2 version installed, I have un-installed it.
I removed the WT Market Place version, uninstalled the BN2, by the uninstaller & deleting its folder, removing everything, then re-installed it, booted up the sim, checked a known plane that works with it, then loaded the BN2, None of the WT Stuff in the GPS, USR/USER way points all over the place, none of the realistic options in it nothing.
Did a flight from Dundee to Inverness, got the usual messed up way points, turn back, terrible approach logic etc etc. I then renamed my community folder to boot the sim vanilla and same thing.
So I am stumped, other planes work with it, so I am not sure.
But thanks for the help, much appreciated.
To be fair this is so confusing. I had 2 WT packages installed, I have removed the one that is from the market place, i.e. the one with the GPS Screen as its icon, the other one I have left. I just do not understand why they did not just do away with the old GNS units, I do not understand.
The reason they did not get rid of the old GNS units is precisely because they knew some developers wouldn’t update, so they needed to leave the old version in place in order not to break those aircraft. The package in the Marketplace allows you to bypass that and force all aircraft to use the new GNS at the risk of possible issues.
Unfortunately the Islander has issues, and unless you are able to diagnose and fix those issues yourself you are going to be stuck with the old Asobo GNS until a patch or mod comes along to make the Islander compatible with the WT GNS.
I have both WT packages installed the main unit and the linker. That’s the one with grey image and the one with the image of a GNS. I can follow a gps course and fly an ILS both manually and on autopilot. I only did these quick checks. Are there other issues and if so what?
For me the main issue is it isn’t the AAU1 WT GNS530, and I mean for me, it maybe for you, but for me no matter what it isn’t the WT GNS 530, it is the old default one. It does the ye old turn back, and the usual things. Maybe If I ever use the planes again, I might use the linker, or this will be sorted.
During the AAU1 Beta I was extensively using the new GNS stuff and was completely wowed by it, I did not even bother using the TDS with say the PC12 as the WT 530 units were doing a stellar job. I just really wanted this in the BN2.
This is so frustrating. It’s the easiest fix ever.
Go to the panel.cfg and change this line
htmlgauge00=NavSystems/GPS/AS530/AS530.html, 0, 0, 320,234
Into this
htmlgauge00=NavSystems/GPS/WT530/WT530.html, 0, 0, 320,234
There, that’s what @NightMercury358 says he needs better documentation for.
That’s effectively what the free addon on the marketplace is supposed to do, make the WT 530 available if the developer hasn’t implemented it themselves. It’s a tiny addon, and to be honest I’ve not even looked at it to see what it contains.
This is mentioned on their Discord, but to be fair, the WT GNS Developer Notes that have been linked here two or three times on this thread points to AS530 instead.
Unless I’m missing something, I’m assuming this is out of date documentation, or they are relying on the other addon to do the translation for you.
This is from their Discord, posted back in January of this year:
That little linker file just redirects any aircraft calling the Asobo versions to the WT versions. So it absolutely needs to be installed to catch any non updated aircraft unless you don’t mind delving in to aircraft files to make the edit for each of those aircraft.
i noticed the GNS 530 is an old outdated version. i thought everything was Working Title now?
On XBSX I keep the free ‘updated’ WT items on mine, never causes any problems.
not sure what you mean? with all of my other MSFS addons, all of the GNS 530 and 430s are automatically the Working Title versions, without any additional downloads.
so why is the BN-2 still on an old outdated version? i dind’t even think that was possible
Because the addon has to explicitly reference the WT430/530, not AS430/530, in the XML. That’s the only way for it to use the WT stuff without you having the WT addons installed in the Marketplace. I forget who, but there are a few other devs who haven’t switched. To be fair to any dev regarding this, Working Title has made all of this about as clear as mud.
gotcha. so the developer needs to update their mod to not use the older version and allow the normal one to proceed.
do you know, can we make the XML change oursleves in the meantime?
I think it is possible, but I admit I’ve not tried with this aircraft. I think the bn2-interior.xml file references it, but I’m thinking this likely isn’t the only place. The more I’ve looked at that file, the less I’m sure that it’s as easy as swapping the reference. It might be referencing functions of the AS530 that are different in the WT version. I do hope that we can get an update with “out of the box” support though, when the dev finds time and is sure the WT code is stable enough.
No .xml file changes are needed - just a simple edit to the panel.cfg file. In the first section of the panel.cfg file, note the AS530/AS530 in the last line:
[VCockpit01]
size_mm = 320,234
pixel_size = 320,234
texture = $AS530_Screen
htmlgauge00=NavSystems/GPS/AS530/AS530.html, 0, 0, 320,234
Change AS530/AS530 to WT530/WT530 (WT for Working Title):
[VCockpit01]
size_mm = 320,234
pixel_size = 320,234
texture = $AS530_Screen
htmlgauge00=NavSystems/GPS/WT530/WT530.html, 0, 0, 320,234
That’s all there is to it.
thanks! i’ll give it a try
