Sorry to say but the general tone mapping and lighting on MSFS 2020 was not close to be realistic. To me MSFS 2024 does this way better and it should not be reverted.
Also saturation on MSFS 2020 was way too overpowered which was mostly visible on red colors.
The lights system in general is also way better, especially on passive aircraft (live traffic/ai traffic/multiplayer) from a distance but also on ground, it only needs some tweaks here and there (like that “sepia colored layer” on cities).
Maybe OP means the blue/green taxiway lights which are overpowered and visible from above? That’s a bug, not a style decision (see flag on that topic).
