Burning Man Airspace Tour in Nevada bush trip

During the Nevada bush trip you pass Black Rock City. As I got to know only a few headlines about the burning man event, I did not realize, that this is only a temporarily existing site. While I realized, that for following the bush trip through the desert scenes looking at, a road map is mandatory (“follow route xx, …”), as a European citizen I just used my IPad’s map to follow the NavLog. However, there was no chance to find the runway near Black Rock City on the street map. After I finally found it in FS, I took a look at the Burning Man web site. Thus I understood, what was happening: The bush flight assumes to stay during the Burning Man event. But according to the Burning Man Project, at the end of the festival, they leave no trace, as said in the Sustainability Roadmap:
“Black Rock City is the largest “Leave No Trace” event in the world.”
So, Apple’s map is updated after end of the event, and, in fact, there are no traces left. No 88NV!! Hard to find out, if you are not an insider.
But, as the bush flight acts while Burning Man event scenery, I would like to follow the according flight rules, which are clearly shown on the web site Pilot Advisory and on Youtube:
Burning Man Airspace Tour.

It would be great, if FS2020 would honor this event in a more appropriate manner and incorporate the airspace tour into the scenery.

Agreed, 88NV is almost impossible to find, but it’s there. Use Google Maps to search for Black Rock City and zoom in. At the radial labelled ‘3:30’, about 750 meters from the outer circle labelled ‘Lustrate’, you’ll find the location of the ‘Municipal Airport 88LV’, a dirt strip about 1.8 kilometers long. I spent some time looking at all the labelled circle and radial streets and their names. One wouldn’t expect such an organized street plan for a short festival. Can’t attest to weather or not it exists after the festival, but Googles photo captures it in detail.

this is the ultimate goal after burning man has ended.

I don’t know if BM is going this year, but i suspect if it is, you’ll be able to fly by/to it and see the entirety of Black Rock City. NV88 is in fact a temporary airstrip with proper FAA certifications. People go out the week or so before and mark out a runway in the dirt.

Hell, the Ever Given was properly represented in game for a short while. I don’t find it implausible that NV88 will properly appear in game when Burning Man happens

AirNav: 88NV - Black Rock City Airport for the curious minds

Burning Man dates back to the late 80s. It’s not just “Short festival.”

It’s many…many things…

Since 1986, to be specific. !991 in Black Rock City. Lasts 9 or 10 days, a short festival, IMHO. Perhaps you know of year long festivals? LOL!

I mean…nothing “official” that’s a year long festival. Two weekend festivals were beginning to be commonplace before Rona.

Technically yes, it’s only a week and a half tops. But it’s an experience you go to, not something you “Just attend.” I’ve never been personally, but i’ve known people who have and would someday like to go lol

Well, there certainly are lots of periodically interesting events around. But in this case, I found it interesting, that there is a very sophisticated flight plan, which would in deed make sense for pilots to follow, not only to have a temporarily different look at it just for sightseeing.

Me too! 75000 people gettin’ together. Awesome, with the exception of the one guy who decided to throw himself into the pyre. Anyway, approach patterns, very coordinated event, significant number of people fly there…

Agreed! They have a very organized event…

Or the ever popular “How would you like your eggs? Over easy, served during the Rennaisance…” I think date option would be VERY difficult to achieve. LOL!

Or my be to stay at the Fly Ranch for even longer.
