Looking for help to start ont he project of bringing the c119 boxcar to the sim its happened once id like to give it a go but alas i lack any of the skills other then some backend stuff i did back in the fsx days looking for anyone interested in helping bring such an awesome old bird to life
I also don’t have any of the required skills, but I will always support any effort to bring any vintage bird to the sim, especially ones that don’t fly anymore, and the C-119 is one of many that I’d love to see brought in here. I can imagine what it might be like to fly a Korean War transport mission route or a skydiving service with a C-119. I almost wonder why Microsoft haven’t made one as a Famous Flyer or Local Legend, the quality-control issues with those product lines notwithstanding.
appreciate the support
Begin with research. It had a very famous engine which was shared by a few famous planes. That might give you some ideas of where to find sounds.
Then there’s the 3D model which might be available on the usual sites.
At that point you’ve got the baseline.
depends on the variant but yeah r3500s or 4360s as for models im looking around for decent ones but so far finding nothing
Redwing has the Connie, must be some B-29 modules out there, I think Milviz was going to do the A-1.
it isnt animated but i presume it isnt impossible to fix said issue?
Of course. It’s a start. You have sounds, you have a model, you can hook something up in the SDK. Then you just keep making it better.
well so far the sdk is being headaches galore and im struggling to get the aircraft loaded despite tutorials
I feel ya. I’ve been through it a few times, played with the editors, but it’s not intuitive or fully documented. It’s like studying Engineering; you need to form a study group. Are the Discord channels any help?
kinda kinda not at points if i cant sit down with somone and ask i struggle at points
Easy path. Take one of the default planes, make a change to it, and get it to show up in the sim. Nothing fancy, just some small change.
tried it seemed to refuse to
@AceAmato Check the Headwinds and Mega-pack projects out. It’s all open source, and it looks well documented.
What are you using for modeling? Blender?
If you’re having trouble getting your models to show, it’s likely related to your layout.json file. You’ll need to use one of the tools now, as 2024 is very particular about them. They need to include the correct file size for each object, or 2024 will reject the package, at least that’s what I’ve read. Then you’ll run into texture issues with the Blender export. Lots of info over at devsupport, too, with developers asking questions of the SDK team.
You might want to try developing in 2020 first, skip 2024 for the time being as you’ll probably have an easier time with 2020. Then upgrade to 2024 in the future.
thats what im trying to do right now is fs20 and blender the plugin seems to be outputting the right file but the sim refuses to read said file its most likely something so simple but i seem to be missing it
I love the idea of this plane coming to life in the sim. Back in the 60’s I was in the Civil Air Patrol and we were flown to a summer encampment in a Flying Boxcar. I don’t think I’d be much help with the model because I’d be starting from ground zero with the SDK, but I love what you’re doing.
