C172 G1000 Knobs Not Clickable in Legacy Interaction Mode

:white_check_mark: SIM INFORMATION

This is vital information for our test team, please do not skip it or your issue may not be able to be reproduced or fixed.

  • Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 or 2024: 2024

  • Version Build Number (Where do I locate that?): 1.1.7.0

  • Game Platform (Steam, Xbox, MS Store): Steam

:white_check_mark: ISSUE DESCRIPTION

  1. Description of the issue:
Knobs on the G1000 that have a “press” action, like the HDG knob and FMS knob, cannot be pressed using legacy controls. They can only be rotated. Therefore, one cannot adjust their flight plan, among other actions.

I can confirm the knob is pressable using “Lock” mode (non-legacy interaction).

Oh, I just tried using lock mode controls in legacy mode and that works. If you hold left-click on the knob, then press right-click, the knob will press. Perhaps an issue with Legacy mode in general?

I can also confirm this behavior is the same on the Caravan G1000. Not sure what other planes have a G1000 or I would test them all.

  1. If applicable, which aircraft is experiencing this issue:
The Cessna 172 G1000 (this might affect other/all G1000 aircraft)

  2. Did you remove all your community mods/add-ons? If yes, are you still experiencing the issue?
    No mods/addons installed in 2024

:white_check_mark: FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

How often does this occur for you? (Example: Just once, every time on sim load, intermittently)
Every time, reliably

:white_check_mark: REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue.

  1. Load C172 or Caravan with G1000 (any airport, cold/dark or ready for takeoff, no difference)
  2. Go to settings > Flight Interface and set “Cockpit Interaction System” to “Legacy”
  3. Click HDG or FMS knob. Expected action (what happens in 2020): knob is pressed in. Actual action: nothing (knob can be pressed with a left-right-click combo)

:white_check_mark: YOUR SETTINGS

If the issue still occurs with no mods and add-ons, please continue to report your issue. If not, please move this post to the User Support Hub.

• Yes

Provide extra information to complete the original description of the issue:
• Noticed on the C172 G1000 yesterday. Controls are in legacy mode, and if I hover over the HDG dial for example, I only get the “hand” symbol, not the “finger” symbol, so I can not press it to sync to my current heading. This is NOT how legacy worked in MSFS2020.

ngl this is the most irritating thing ever when none of the Cessnas work at all. C172 0 sound, C152 = Throttle issue with right mouse click providing full throttle … 0 bindings as Ive checked over and over… i just wanted to do a nice simple flight

Same here, and I figured out why this is happening.

Problem is that they, for some reason, decided for the RIGHT mouse button to work as a knob-clicking button.

Except… right button is also assigned to the look around function, so they conflict. Temporary solution would be removing the cockpit look binding away from the right button.

Something is seriously wrong with mouse interaction in the new sim.
In VR it is even worse - at times, nothing at all can be operated with the mouse pointer. It’s like trying to fly a plane with both your hands chopped off… not very inspiring (or immersive, for that matter)

Same issue here.

Bug #1318343846 that I found so far.

Still trying to complete 1 flight without having any bug.

Our payed alpha test is still going.

I second this, removed bindings from cockpit freelook on the right click and it now works!

Came here to report this issue. Glad I’m not the only one hitting it!

A bit bizarre that basic things like this regressed between 2020 and 2024. Oh well it is what it is. Hope it’s fixed soon. The 172 is used a ton in early career mode.

Unless I’m missing something it’s also impossible to use the directions on the range/pan joysticks.

Do you have the same issue if you follow the OP’s steps to reproduce it?
• yes

Using the standard msfs 2024 mouse profile. Pressing and holding left mouse follwed by a click of the right mouse executes a press of the instrument button (heading button/knob for example) . Something similiar to how msfs 2020 worked from my memory.

2020 worked that way with the “Lock” control scheme. “Legacy” control scheme you did not have to use two clicks, it would activate on the first left-click.

I really miss it, the double click and hold is really off compared to the muscle memory.

Are you reporting the issue for the C172 classic or the C172 G1000 ?

This works for me in G1000 - with default control config right click the knob to sync.

Edit - I see you are an xbox person - issue may be with your control binding setup?

I am a PC User, using the G1000 C172 and the 2020 keybinds.

I hope that helps, thanks!

FYI - This has been reported as a bug several times on other aircraft. It’s consistently occurring on several G1000-equipped aircraft.

But if you’re on PC in legacy mode there’s a workaround: hover the mouse cursor over the button and double-click both right and left mouse buttons at the same time. It’s hit and miss, but I can get it to work on all the G1000 rotary/push buttons.

It’s definitely a bug that the mouse doesn’t change to a pointer that works on a single click.

Thanks, I did look for the bug report of this issue but wasn’t able to locate it. Have just tried your press both buttons together at once suggestion and it seems to work! Thank you!

I noticed last night that this only works on the 172 classic when the autopilot is on. I’m not sure about the G1000, but have you tried it with AP on?
