C182RG II Improvement Project

He was trying to explain how he attempted to mod a stock plane by assuming the G1000 version of config fiies of the Asobo Skyhawk would be similar in content to the classic Six Pack version of the plane. Since all of it is encrypted like Carenado, we can only make best guesses as to how the actual file is written, in terms of structure and variables used.

you can grab the latest update from https://flightsim.to/file/57009/c182rg-improvement-project or by downloading it directly from https://projects.alexchesters.com/c182rg-improvement-project/1.0.0/c182rg-improvement-project.zip

What we need is a turbo version of this otherwise great airplane! It’s frustrating that climb performance is too limited to make it a viable option in places like Colorado. I often fly between KASE and KTEX (or 0CO2) and you simply can’t fly directly between any of those points even at standard DAs. Carenado makes a T182T, so tweaking the flight model of the 192RG II should be easy. The turbo 207 has no problem handling the climb profile necessary for south departures from KASE rwy 15–you need to circle to climb so you can clear the terrain in an Cessna aspro (also, IIRC, Carenado’s Bo V35 has no problem either, and that’s an aspro). Can anyone out there provide a mod, or would that run afoul of Carenado? If so, then let’s lobby them to do it!

Can they still sell it with the original title if it’s now turbocharged? Remember they may also be licensed to produce a certain version of the plane, and might not be allowed to modify that.

I don’t think Carenado licenses anything. Note that their product page only calls it the “C182RG,” never says “Cessna.” On all of their products I own, company logos and names are also replaced with “Carenado” or something.

SO that’s how it is in RL, so why not in the sim , and why not just circle and climb if you need to …

I mean…that’s how it is in the real world. The modeled 182RG is indeed realistic. If you are in/west of the Rockies in the real world too, the 182RG as modelled probably isn’t the best fit based on its mission profile. I’d opt for another Carenado offering or another model all together rather than fictionalizing the currently very accurate (likely the best effort Carenado has made) representation in this model.

A quick google search tells me there is indeed a turbo-normalized version of the 182 RG out there which was more or less identical just with the addition of a TN. It was called the TR182. The fact that it’s TN and not truly turbocharged would make it a dead easy conversion for a modder to do in the sim too. I’ll toss it in my list
