C208B Grand Caravan EX Mods General

here was even a more interesting story, when I installed recommended WT mod and fix, all in C208B seemed ok, except just the radar, for some reason I was unable to activate the radar button (at the bottom of MFD, I tried many times). When I according to your advise removed WT mod (simply moved all WTs to a different folder) I found old G1000 in the cockpit with completely working radar. When I moved those WT mods back, I’ve found that radar button can be activated now by simple click as other buttons (it didn’t work before). So, I don’t actually know what kind of conflict was it, between the mods, but it is ok finally!)) Well, sometimes it happens, you know))) Will looikng forward for new updates of this wonderful plane. Thank you!

I checked that too, but it works this time. Maybe a issue which appears only sometimes🤷🏼‍♀️

Yes, but now I have your latest improved mod with working radar and all other working included functions. I will download every your new update if you’ll keep it up! :grinning: Thank you for your support and for your great work on this nice plane! :+1:

@MagrainaOne , great work! Thank you for all the work on this, I’m enjoying it like many others!

One suggestion - you may want to include, if possible, the “TEXTURE” folder from the previous mod, located in the “SimObjects\Airplanes\Asobo_208B_GRAND_CARAVAN_EX” folder. These texture updates fixed most of the typos and mistakes on the panel textures (for example, FLUID, instead of the default FLUD, or the standby torque gauge with the incorrect scale).

EDIT: I just tried my own build with that folder included, and while some of the texture updates still make sense, some no longer apply. The standby torque gauge has been adjusted by Asobo, so while it still has the same incorrect scale, the previous texture fix doesnt work correctly. Same with some of the other labels, like the cabin lighting and anti ice.

So, until someone with more free time is able to rework the textures, the stock Asobo textures are probably better.

Yes, there is missing something.
After some changes of different people, in this mod, it takes some time to understand, what is needed, why it is need and how is it compared to an old version. Texture files takes some more time.

I see you’ve uploaded v2106.3 on Github, but there doesnt appear to be a way to download it. Is that intentional (still in testing)?

Yes correct! I’m still testing and adding new things

Thank you very much for the great mod! It’s awesome to have CAS messages and the other improvements are excellent as well.

The only thing I noticed is that the oil temperature is always in the yellow arc. So I was wondering if there is anything that could be done about this?

It works fine with Onair for me.

You’re welcome!

I will check if I can do something with the temperature.

The mod I’m using is about half a year old but still works fine, but I decided to use the latest one which for 99% looks great and better however I have a slight issue with the landing part, no matter what landing, difficult or easy, coming in at around 80-85 knots the plane bounces quit often. Am I the only one experiencing this? I’m back to my old version which doesn’t bounce.

Seems very fast for landing unless you’re at mlw. I’m usually landing at 71-73 kts.

For as far as I know, landing speeds should be somewhere between 75-85 knots. I’ve seen real life faster without any trouble.

For my self it feels the other way around, with the actual version compared to the old one.
I do not have problems Like that, but I think I doesn’t tried it that fast.
Also what is interesting is your sink rate, at touch down?
What’s your flap setting?

If you’re bouncing you might be on the light side and need to reduce speed. When learning to fly I used to get into ground effect and hold the plane off until the stall horn was buzzing steady, but not as loud as it does at departure from flight.

Have you ever watched the movie Fool’s Gold? Funny line as they are approaching their water landing in the C206 Floatplane. “We need to slow down until we stop flying just before touchdown. STOP FLYING!”, or something like that.

@MagrainaOne @SmileyOr1 Thanks! Having read your comments I may have to adjust my landing approaches, add some weight and come in at a lower speed. Last approaches were in unknown territory to me, small airports in the Mexican mountains. I have reinstalled the mod. I’ll let you know.

No need to add weight. Two main factors to avoid a bounce.

  • A low rate of descent at touchdown.
  • Don’t touch down with the nosewheel first.

According to the POH, the speed at 50ft varies between 71kts (7000lbs) and 78kts (8500lbs)

Just rechecked the stall/approach speeds on the default 208 and they are spot on.
You can touch down in a flat attitude at ~80kts or with the stall warning blaring at ~50kts without bouncing.

With the mod and 50% fuel and just the standard 170# pilot onboard I find 50 kts in a stable descent does not set off the stall horn. Drop below that and depending on how stable you are you can descend at as low as 43 kts +/- with some power on along with the stall horn blaring. This is more of a flat entry with a nose high attitude though.

The normal approach would be at 75 kts give or take, but in the sim with the mod it can be done at a lower speed. With the ability to reset as needed you can push the safety margins quite a bit. The default plane is a little higher. Pick a long runway and hold the plane off the ground until the plane falls to the ground and note the speed at the time.
