[callsign] you are [x] thousand feet above/below your cleared level

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue:

I don’t know if this is strictly a bug per se, more just a totally artificial, improbable scenario.

ATC are regularly, say every couple of minutes, telling AI aircraft they are so many thousand feet above or below their cleared level. This never happens in real life.

I’ve been a professional pilot for 30 years. 20 in the military, 10 in an airline. I don’t think I have ever once heard this happen. I don’t know where the developers got the idea from that this is a regular event, but it isn’t.

Occasionally, flight crew will mis-hear or mis-set a cleared altitude, but ATC, in my experience, pick up on that straight away before any level bust (they can see what is set in the altitude window on the MCP in any modern airliner, courtesy of ADS-B).

If the developers are looking for background chat between ATC and the AI aircraft, I can tell them that 90% or more of the time it is aircraft checking in, being sent to the next frequency (though that one is happening less now with CPDLC), and being given radar headings or directs to waypoints further down their flight plan, often the one at the next FIR boundary.

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

How often does this occur for you (Example: Just once, every time on sim load, intermittently)?

Every time. It seems to be a fundamental part of the AI ATC script.

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

YOUR SETTINGS

If the issue still occurs with no mods and add-ons, please continue to report your issue. If not, please move this post to the User Support Hub.

What peripherals are you using, if relevant:

[PC Only] Are you using Developer Mode or have you made any changes to it?

[PC, MSFS 2020 Only] Are you using DX11 or DX12?

[PC Only] What GPU (Graphics Card) do you use?

[PC Only] What other relevant PC specs can you share?

MEDIA

Please add a screenshot or video of the issue occurring.

You will get that call yourself when you are cruising at the given altitude, but haven’t reset your baro.

So I think it’s a scripting error, where AI aircraft have their baro set to metar values and just flying. ATC then just replies as programmed. (which the AI aircraft of course ignores, hence the repetition)

Could also be linked to this issue: Live ADSB Traffic details displayed too high altitude & speed but this would only explain the ATC message in case AI aircraft is above its assigned level and not in case ATC reports the AI aircraft to be below. So maybe also due to the issue commented by @Pieter2427 .

Hello,

I also noticed this issue. My assumption is that MSFS is ignoring standard altimetric setting (QNE), and keeps trying traffic to stick to FL in local QNH, which is definitely not realistic.

MSFS shall adapt to regional transition altitude (in climb) or transition FL (in descent) and adapt instructions accordingly.

This is a must improve for the ATC realism
