Camera view noob

Are there any external camera views which still allow effective control of the aircraft other than the standard 3rd person - float behind view?

I’ve tried using the drone camera but I don’t have control of the aircraft via joystick, throttle, pedals, keyboard when it’s active.

Yep! The default key should be the “END” key above your arrow keys. I’d recommend binding it do a button on one of your controllers, but for example mine is middle mouse button. I remember being confused with the drone vs external cams too!
Happy flying!

Yes. “End” get me to the standard 3rd person rear view. It’s a fixed position.

I was wondering if there was another way? Some other camera views where I have control.

I’m specifically looking for views which will allow me to see whether I am executing aerobatic maneuvers correctly.

Press c key to control the plane and c again to control the drone

Oh, my apologies, I misunderstood your question. I don’t think there is a function like that in the sim yet, however, if you just want to see if you’re doing aerobatics correctly I would recommend downloading a free replay tool. Record the maneuver(s), then watch it back in a fixed drone cam? If you want to control it live, I’m not quite sure if that’s possible yet. As I’m typing this, JustMicko provided a possible solution. Hope that works out for you OP, keep us updated!

You can control that camera with the right mouse button exactly like you do when inside the plane.

This is indeed the solution. But it seems like a really odd way of seeing things up.

Is the assumption that I would control the drone with the joystick/throttle/rudder pedals rather than either the default keyboard mappings, a mouse or similar?

I found the flight controls being locked out in an external drone camera view to be rather counter-intuitive.

That’s very odd and the reason I bought a Xbox controller. It’s a bit easier to fiddle with that.
