I have 1500 files in my community folder alone (and growing) and 884 in my Official Folder (and growing) - I fly everywhere and sometimes divert flights when I choose to). On startup, I get an endless swirl at “checking for updates”. It would be great if Asobo could code it to bypass the community folder for updates.
My current start-up procedure involves disengaging the network through the Device Manager so I can start the sim in offline mode and then enable it after the update screen is gone.
The sim couldn’t check for Community Mod updates as those are outside of the Marketplace so that’s probably not part of the delay. It may read those 1500 items though to configure the sim and apply them accordingly.
All addons count for the start-up checking process, because all are also loaded by game no matter where they are stored. At least several of us could confirm that this is the case during tests.
Please take a look to the following bug report and vote there so that the issue gets priority. In my opinion it´s a serious one that was probably missed because devs may only perform tests with official content as you would expect, but it could even prevent official content to load at some point as that content also increases periodically with the new SUs and WUs which are released. We are indeed quite close to the limit right now so fixing this is relatively urgent.
OH…That is why my MSFS starts up so quickly these days as compared to some other folks.
Also, I have NOTHING in my community folder… and as a thought, I have not suffered a CTD since 2022.
While Addon Linker works great and I use it a lot, I would like to see a new loading system where there is no need to use it. There must be a way to make a fast startup routine not matter how many addons are installed.
I have close to 700GB of add-ons in the Community and even on this old PC I’m at the launch screen in under 180 seconds. Yes its not hyperfast but I make a coffee. Other people can load even faster with more powerful rigs nVme drives and such.
I use the Add-On Linker but I always load everything all the time. The AOL is just there to manage the folders.
I have had 2 CTDs - and that was with empty Community folder. I recall one of them was caused when I moved the Steam folder.
And the option to have the Marketplace only used for downloading and update alerting (only), so that we could manage marketplace content and world updates externally (or with a built-in preload manager) as well.
I should be able to disable something from the marketplace without having to delete it and reinstall it, PRIOR to loading the sim.
The way you write it looks like I demand it, which is not.
All the add-ons seem to be examined at startup, so the more you have, the longer the loading time.
I guess this can be done in another way.
Remember FSX/P3D? It always stuck on 6% and then proceed further after a long time, depending on the amount of add-ons.
Then, someone found out what was happening at that 6% point and reported back to LM which resulted in changed loading procedures.
Since MSFS has inherited code from FSX this could be the issue.
