Hi Forum,
Can you land an airliner on water in FS2020? With collision enabled and everything? I have seen some YouTube video where an airliner was apparently landed on the sea, but not sure whether ground collision was enabled or not.
So is it possible in a “realistic setting”? Or asked differently: Can you do a Sully?
I have tried several times already on the Hudson river, but each time I was greeted with a black screen of death shortly afterwards. Not saying that I did it correclty (there is no surprise that the historical event was classified as “miracle”), but before I spend my life on it I’d rather ask if someone else has already succeeded with a water landing, say with the A320neo perhaps? Does the flight model “support” water emergency landings?
Thanks!
I am not sure about water landings, but you can do belly landings on land. I’ll quickly test water landings now and let you know what I find out.
Icon A5 lands nicely on river Thames and if you deploy water rudder, it steers quite ok too. Though I do have crash detection off
Well I tried an A320N and I have a sinking feeling about life decisions, sorry.

You can, I landed a a320 in front of Fuerteventura, but I believe you need to turn off crashes so you don’t instantly get the you are dead screen
That would not be a realistic setting, or at least I wouldn’t have thought so. You can do a belly landing on land with crash settings enabled.

Yeah I agree, but it is pretty ok for not being a realistic setting, the landing does feel like a water landing, I guess they have not implemented it officially since some effects are missing.

I managed to land a 747 in a lake in New York, so it sometimes works! Though when I drove my Cessna into a lake to see if it could swim the game said I crashed.
Interesting, I just did four very smooth touchdowns on water, and each time my tail hit the water, I got the “You crashed into water” screen.
Well… I believe that’s what this airplane is supposed to do
But I was specifically asking about “emergency landings” with airliners, such as the A320neo.

Yes, but I wonder whether it is actually possible to “simulate an emergency landing on water” - of course with “crashes enabled”. Otherwise it would be pointless
Hmmm, that’s interesting! Now the price-winnning question would be: was that merely a “glitch” in the simulation, or are properly done water landings (which are very difficult, almost impossible in real life, too! Or so they say…) actually possible within FS2020?
Thanks for all your answers so far! I’d be interesting to hear from others whether they successfully managed water landings (and again: with collisions enabled, of course ;)).
Yes water landings work. This one was definitely intentional as well.
Nice one! And can you confirm that this landing had been done with „collisions enabled“ and a reasonable realistic flight setting?
