Mike this is exactly what I would like to do. I’m going to give it a try rather than continuously trying to fine tune my seat position in flight! Thanks!
I think the main reason for this post is to tell us that Carenado 182T is very bad modelling on cockpit dimensions and proportions!!!
Sadly that seems to be the case. However I am so stoked because after that bit of advice from MikeSierra2030 I spent some time adjusting my default pilot view for the Bonanza, and now it is GREAT! Thanks again Mike!
It’s good to make a copy of cameras.cfg file in the community folder and make any modifications to that copy. This way the file will not be overwritten by another update and can be easily removed without touching the original files.
Did you also notice that, um, you have no peripheral vision in FS2020? I could be mistaken but I think this is due to the fact that this is a simulation with static views.
When you look left or right I’m guessing you see your walls and trophies right? You should start another post complaining about that too.
And in real life, do you have your head always in the same position while turning your neck? Don’t you maybe even point your eyes a bit downwards to look through the window? Do you notice the actual difference in your eyes height when you look up and down?
This is a simulator dude, make use of your cameras, get a track ir, or ya know, get involved in what you are doing. There might be quite a handful of rubbish things, but this is not one of them.
Nope, I think Carenado have messed up this model of the 182T. The proportions seem to be all wrong.
Take a look at this view. The instrument panel is nearly as high as the top pf the left window (!?!)
Here I am positioned perfectly for takeoff:
But if I pan to the left:
Now we take the Asobo Cessna 172:
Here I am positioned nicely for take off:
And if I pan to the left:
I didn’t realise these were such radically different aircraft in terms of their sizes and proportions…
Yes, I think that there is something messed up with the geometry of the 182. When in the cockpit and you look out the front or the side window it feels/looks as if you are in a tail dragger. i,e, the tail of the aircraft seems too low. I have this issue with both the msfs and the x-plabe version of this plane. But I have never been in a real 182.
In small Cessna planes (and not only) a pilot, after their seat adjustment, should see over the dashboard the top of cawlings and the ground in the distance of 20-30 ft. Something is wrong here with the Carenado plane.
All you have to do is use the up arrows like the other people are suggesting to move your viewpoint up, as far as looking out of the wings, this is also a very easy fix, all you need to do is set up a custom view on your left side, and your right side, what I like to do is I use the number keys and if I’m looking out of the right window I use number 6… And if I’m looking out of the left window I use number 4… And obviously I will lower the viewpoint on both sides so I’m looking directly below the bottom of each wing. I hope this explains it and helps you.
Yes, of course you can do that as a work around. And you have to do it in order to fly the plane. But the geometry is still messed up and should be fixed.
Have you ever been in a real 182?
Been in a 206, close enough to my point. I didn’t have a problem because my neck moving 1 inch when looking through the window makes all the difference.
So unless you keep your eyes in the exact same spot when looking to your sides (which I really doubt), your question is irrelevant.
Do you have Track IR?
Well then, there you have it. You just claimed that you hardly had to move your head to see out the side window in the 206. Yet in the simulator this is not the case.
Anyway, since neither of us has actually flown a 182, neither of us can really make conclusive comments now can we. I’ve spent lots of time flying 152s, and the 172, but never been in a 182, at all.
Perhaps someone who actually has some experience up front in a 182 can put this topic to rest…
I have hundreds of hours in a Cessna-182, and I’ve flown the Cessna 150, 152 , 172, and the 172 RG as well. In none of these aircraft are there problems with visibility out the side windows (while simultaneously being able to see over the panel). You simply turn your head to left and you can see; no neck scrunching or unnatural acts are required. The Carenado model is not accurate in the sense that it does not convey the expected view.
Thanks for taking the time to post geoffda - this is good to know.
In all previous MSFS and Xplane titles I would have to agree with you 100%. This is something that always bothered me. In this version though, the 172 and 152 I have no problem seeing out the windows when my view is slightly over the nose. I use trackIR and I can fly patterns fine with a view over the instrument panel. Maybe the 182 DLC is different tho…
Yeah, the Carenado Cessna 182T is definitely messed up. I was thinking the Asobo Cessnas had the same issue, but maybe I’m misremembering. I’ll have to go back and check.
