I just cannot start the CAP-4 engine (MS 2024) from a parking position. I did the external check, followed all the checklist steps, battery on, mixture on, carb heat cold, mags on, fuel selector both, two throttle pumps, clicked on the note on the panel to crank the prop, the engine starts and runs for a sec, then it dies. I tried it several times, same result.
If I start on the runway, I can start the engine normally (after shutting it down, because if I start the flight on the runway the engine is running by default)
any ideas on what i’m doing wrong? thanks in advance.
Having never done it before, I tried following the EFB checklist like you did. No start!
It seems they have left out an important part - priming 3 times with the primer on the far left of the instrument panel. (left of the ignition switch).
Also, the “open” position for the fuel cutoff valve is pressed down. If you pull it up (open), after a while the engine will fuel starve and quit.
On other aircraft I have also found that cranking the engine while slowly moving the mixture from lean to rich works quite well.
I got 3 successful starts in parking following the above.
I just tried the check list again, this time on the CAP 4 and she started right up on first try - no problems. I followed the recommendation I mentioned before with the mixture in full lean/cutoff before I started to crank, gradually moving it to full rich when the engine caught.
As others seem to be reporting the same problem, it might help to know that I am running the PC Store version of the sim with SU3 installed.
Well I am on PC, steam. I turned on battery, alt/mags, fuel on both, pumped the mixture a few times, carb heat to 30% and cranked the yellow ticket. Throttle was just cracked open, RPMs at about 900. She just started and kept on going. I did NOT use the primer.
That sounds electrical to me. Make sure you have the battery switch in the correct position. I don’t think the switch settings are all that intuitive, so please take a look at my screen captures in my previous post.
I have everything set up correctly, it’s a very simple aircraft, no much room to do something wrong. The checklist says to put the Fuel Selector down, the aircraft spawns only with fuel on the low tank. I’ve tried all tanks. It doesn’t work. I’m going to upload a video showing it.
Magnetos: ON
Battery: ON
Throttle: Cracked
Mixture: Rich
Carburetor Heat: Cold
Try putting in some carb heat. Fuel to both tanks. This worked for me.
If none of this works I agree with Tallest Parsley - it must be an xbox issue. It is just about the simplest plane I have flown in the sim. There is no other hidden process.
