When I got home from the hospital it was a group decision to help this octogenarian set up a simulator to help him spend final months - what fun!!
Bought a new computer, i7-10750H, RTX-4090, triple monitors, Saitek stack and rudders, Honeycomb A & B, Winwing FCU and EFIS L & R and the new MCDU. Nothing on the new computer except for the MSFS (both) and associated software.
The system has been working pretty well, seems like there are more compatibilty issues than there shoud be. Tuesday afternoon 4/15, was loading a flight from SimBrief into 2024. Load stopped and sent me back to desktop. Since then have not been able to start either MSFS. Call up either and it spins a few seconds and stops - never pretends to load or leave desktop. I’ve been muddling along as best I could and have been able to keep things running to one degree or another.
But now I’m stuck, tried everything that has been suggested on-line and even things that don’t make any sense, but had to at least try. Don’t think it’s MSFS - both just don’t stop at the same time. An old guy needs help. If I’ve posted this in the wrong place, sorry. If there’s some article somewhere that I should have read - sorry, missed it. If you could spare a little time to lend a hand, it would be MOST appreciated.

For FS2024, it is easy and painless to re-install.
Go to Windows Settings, APPS, Installed APPs.
Scroll down to MS Flight Simulator 2024
Uninstall.
Go to Windows Store and install FS2024.
Ron, any idea why MSFS 20 and 24 would both stop at the same time? Neither will load.
I had similar issues. Dont do a full reinstall until you’ve exhausted all the possible causes.
e.g.: Msfs 2020 won't launch
This guy had his clock set to a different timezone. Imagine that.
Now, if you search a little bit, you will stumble upon a great variety of little tricks that can help you diagnose your problem and fix it. This forum, in conjunction with good old Google can do the work.
I’d start by logging off and then back online on Xbox Gaming Services - and also Microsoft store (Maybe Stea, if you’re a Steam version).
But again, this is just the tip of the iceberg. I still suffer from CTDs once in a while.

Same problem here. Two days ago, both MS20 and 24 stopped working, CTD right after I selected a gate or RWY. I did not do any changes to PC, like new driver, scenery etc. Both sims just stopped loading. I removed some files from Nvidia folder based on recommendations I found online, that cured MS2020 (for now), however MS2024 is still dead as a Dodo. I reinstalled PC to a factory state like 3 weeks ago, fresh Windows. I have opened a ticket with Zendek and they sent me quite a list of troubleshooting steps, like 10 of them. I have gone down to step 8, so the last few is reinstalling C++ and then sim and then reset PC to a factory state again. I have already reinstalled MS2024 like 5 times and reset PC before. So, I am not going to do that again. Folks from Asobo has to do a better job. We cannot reset PC back to factory state every time the sim crashes which happens on a regular basis. Frustrating.
Something like this is going on my side. I was absent for a week, returned on Sunday just to discover that both sims do not load. I am on latest beta for MSFS2024, MSFS2020 1.38.2.0 and downloaded the last one. Also the Xbox App was updated by Windows. Now 2024 somehow works (but without market place), and 2020 stacks attempting to downloading the NAV update (fs-base-nav-0.1.180.fspackage). By the way, the Xbox App starts very slowly and is not sighing up - stating that I am not connected to internet (looks like something happened to Windows, but everything I’ve done to repair it does not have any effect, I blame the Xbox update here)
