Can't get G-Sync to work

Hey guys, I’ve seen previous threads on here, but not a single one has actually helped me resolve my issue. G-Sync isn’t working with MSFS for me. It works just fine in several other games, but not with MSFS.

G-Sync is set to also work in windowed borderless mode in the NVCP. I also tried to take a look at the settings with the Nvidia Profile Inspector, but that only showed that everything is already set the way it should be.

Vsync is also turned off and so is any framerate cap.

I just don’t know what to try anymore, I didn’t find any other solutions or workarounds on the internet, apart from what I’ve already tried. Maybe some of you guys still have an idea, as MSFS (for now) is the only game where G-Sync doesn’t work for me.

Thanks in advance!

Hi there !

What can tell you G-Sync don’t work ? If you go in NVCP and activate G-Sync… so G-Sync work !
Are you thinking you can systematicaly have 144 fps on a 144Hz monitor ?
Mine is 165Hz and I have 30 to 40 fps in good conditions.

What monitor are you using?

? When did I imply that I think that I will always get 144fps on my monitor? Not to be rude, but I’m not sure if you read/understood my post at all, because I specifically stated that MSFS is the only game where G-Sync does not work for me.

if windowed mode is enabled for MFS on Nvidia Profile inspector then it works.
Enable G-Sync Indicator ( NVCP - setup Gync-Display), will let you know if g-sync is working or not.
Another option is enabling monitor fps counter and check if its trying to synchronize with MFS fps

That is exactly the thing. It does not! My monitor (LG27GL850) has a monitor fps/Hz counter and that shows that G-Sync does not work in MSFS. It does work in all other games I’ve ever tried. MSFS is the only one that apparently doesn’t work.

I’m not the only one with that problem. If you google it, quite a few dozen topics will pop up, where people can’t get G-Sync to work with MSFS. For some it works, for some it doesn’t. This has nothing to do with G-Sync not working in general.

I had hoped you guys had any other ideas that I could try, other than what I’ve already tried.

Is it free Sync ? also do you have any other Monitor connected?

It is a free sync monitor with full G-Sync compatibility. So that isn’t the issue. And yes, I do have a second monitor connected, but my main monitor is correctly configured to be the main monitor in NVCP.

I will try that, thank you! Even though I don’t rally like that I could need an injector program to fix this issue. Weird that it only affects MSFS for me, whilst all other games work just fine.

i have also 2 monitors ( Asus G-Sync + Eizo ) and sometimes g-sync is not working on MFS, especially when using 2nd monitor for browsing, youtube, other applications. G-Sync stops to synchronize and use the max refresh rate of the monitor.
at last re-check again if on Nvidia profile inspector “Fullscreen and Windowed” is enabled on MFS ( Application, global mode) + Global driver Base profile ( same as MFS)

That’s the weird thing. I did all this, and it still doesn’t work. It’s all correctly set, double and triple checked. Thanks for your help nonetheless!

In msfs we have only windowed and borderless mode.
Borderless is not “true” fullscreen

i know, “Fullscreen and Windowed” is NV inspector description.
By the way i think Special K works good for Monitors that are not G-sync

Just a thought.

In the NVIDIA CP you can select the option to use G-Sync in either or both full screen
and windowed mode.

Further I have found that [unlike in all the other games I play] I get better, more consistent
frames with G=Sync turned OFF and the frame rate capped at 60. If nothing else this stops the
GPU from eating itself when in the menu’s!

I’m not really a fan of disabling G-Sync, because in general it does a very good job and leads to a very nice/smooth experience. But I will give it a try when running MSFS.

I agree with you there.
But I can’t argue with my own frame counts.
Maybe something in MSFS regarding frames and Vertical Sync in general is broken.

Let us all know the results of your findings.

Cheers.

This is also a good option. I have ROG Asus PG279Q with max refresh rate of 144hz.
After many tests i noticed the best smooth experience was with frame rate limit at 48.
You need to divide your monitor max refresh rate : 144/2 = 72 , 144/3=48 and that was the best option for my setup. Ultra smooth with no stutters

Yes., agreed.
Have been using this approach since my P3d day’s.

Regards.

Are you sure your game is running within the G-Sync range? What is your in-game FPS? I believe G-Sync specification only works down to 30FPS, and different monitors have different minimums.

I have a CRG9 on my sim rig will not run G-Sync below 47FPS.

My main panel which I play MSFS, a Dell s2417dg, will switch between G-Sync and not since my in game FPS is usually between 25-40 on ultra.
