Can't import into blender

I’m trying to set up Blender, but can’t seem to use the importer. It seems correctly installed.

Any ideas?

I fought with it for an entire week. Never figured it out. Good luck finding anyone who can help. I gave up it’s not worth the trouble to me.

Hi @RGGeorender ,
[Edit - my incorrect reply removed, as @FloSchulz90 kindly corrected me, as per his post below!]

Which Blender version do you use? I have a plugin working with 2.92…

You can. Pretty important for doing liveries.

@FloSchulz90: Thank you for correcting me! :slightly_smiling_face:

I was going off the SDK documentation:

THE BLENDER PLUGIN
This section of the SDK documentation is for help with the support for Blender. This software is partially supported by the Microsoft Flight Simulator SDK and can be used when creating models, animations and materials for your add-ons. The plugin is supplied as a ZIP file with the SDK installation, available from the “Blender” folder in the Core SDK install location (which you can get from the Help menu), eg:

The Blender Plugin Folder In The SDK Core Install Location
Alternatively, you can get the plugin from the following GitHub repository:
GitHub - AsoboStudio/glTF-Blender-IO-MSFS

IMPORTANT!
The Blender plugin cannot import glTF files that have been built for a Microsoft Flight Simulator package using the Package Builder within the simulation.

I should have read the text a bit more carefully!

I tried every version of blender available to download and never got it to do anything.

If you can’t import models from packages built with the sdk, where is everyone getting the models from? I even tried some thst were on .to that obviously worked for everyone else.

There are (used to be?) two plugins. One was created by the people from FlyByWire and then there was the Asobo exporter. The former can be used to import into Blender and there are nice Tutorials on how to create liveries by piggybacking new gltf-pieces to the original model - no mirroring, high resolution without blowing up the texture files to 4K or 8K. I got the general principles, but still need to work on my blender skills…

That’s odd. I tried a few different versions and while the more recent ones don’t work for me, the aforementioned 2.92 does the trick… probably it’s some incompatibility between Blender and the addon. Does it produce any error messages or just no import menu button?

Just tried 2.92 and the FBW plugin. Still nothing installs in the addon list. I wonder if the plugin has been changed in some way.

It was several months ago. I seem to recall both either the button showing and getting an error message. Or the button not showing at all. I don’t remember what the error was but i remember googleing it trying to figure it out. I also can’t remember the circumstances that had the button show up or not. I deleted blender after i gave up so i can’t even test it now. I definitely tried 1.92 and remember specifically reading 1.91 would work and was the recommended version for msfs but it didn’t do anything different.

Did anyone figure this out? I would love to start painting liveries but cannot seem to import the GLTF into Blender. Using 2.92. There are like 3 different importer tools, which one actually works?

Thanks man! It worked! Now I just have to figure out how to paint these guys…

You’re very welcome.
Happy to help

3D Livery Painting on the MSFS Models - User Support Hub / SDK - Microsoft Flight Simulator Forums

Thanks so much, I managed to get one skin done. However, after moving it to my community folder and confirming that the package was complete, my simulator didn’t read it. the livery existed but textures and model did not show up. Any ideas?

Are the files named correctly? Do they show up in manifest.json? Can you maybe zip your livery (like the ones you would download from flightsim to) and make it accessible somehow?

Yeah everything is done correctly. I copied an existing livery and replaced the textures with my own but kept the filenames, and nothing showed up, not even the model.

That may be the problem.
You should have different file names and a correct .json file.

Thank you! After editing the .json file correctly, everything is working now.
