Truer words have never been spoken
I learned that the career mode
- is pretty much broken and should be seen as a mockup for what could one day become a career mode
- VisionJet G2, C172 are by far the best working aircraft with PC12 and Caravan being useable if you know how to handle / work around the bugs
- has difficulties matching aircraft, missions and destinations (runways) reasonably
It’s crazy - there are so many dedicated people on these forums, many of whom have had experience developing apps and mods. You’d think that if they don’t have the time or knowledge, they could easily enlist a few people to manually curate the missions. If nothing else, just remove the really ridiculous ones. It would reduce so much frustration.
At least give us some insight into the parameters that trigger the various missions. It’s hard to even give proper feedback because we don’t know how it’s intended to work.
Currently doing some medium cargo flights around Japan, China, North Korea and South Korea.
I’ve learnt that you shouldn’t fly over Pyongyang or the DMZ. Despite these being valid flight paths according to career mode. Will be interesting to test this over Area 51.
After a screw up (Landing on wrong runway, I didn’t notice that the automated radio contact had changed runways from the flight plan). I somehow got 2 Undesignated Landing Area punishments despite only landing once (no bounce either). Thoroughly annoying as this was somehow enough to knock me from High S rating to Low A.
Can anyone recommend good locations for Vision Jet VIP flying? Central Europe seems to all be Alps-inbound; west coast US only goes to Arnold and Big Bear City(!). Would prefer a multitude of missions over seasonally good weather but ideally both would be nice!
Can’t help you there, I get the same.
Besides most of Europe, I’ve opened up USA east and west coast, USA central, Japan, and parts of Africa and South America, but all the Vision Jet missions I get seem to be to aerodromes in Switzerland. Obviousluy in bad weather and to airports with no IFR procedures.
For the time being I’ve just disabled real time weather, at least the scenery is beautiful and the Vision Jet is a joy to fly.
There are a few that go to McCall and Aspen, which are fairly appropriate. Poor Arnold - that “airport” isn’t even associated with that tiny town 45 minutes down the road.
Definitely needs more tourist destinations to open up. It’s kind of ridiculous, almost as if you asked AI to design the missions instead of people who know. Also, no return flights, what’s up with that?
The default flight planner will put you into Prohibited Airspace in some parts of the world that have a lot of it. It respects Real World charted areas.
The default flight planner also does not utilize high or low airways [which incidentally would avoid Prohibited Airspace altogether] making a lot of this “Career Mode” flying very unrealistic.
For your enjoyment you have the flexibility to create your own plan by erasing waypoints and adding in airways and such. This usually makes the flight 10 - 15 even 30 minutes longer, but Career Mode will credit you for the extra flying.
I heard some rumors that the devs were forced to release this title in a ‘beta state’ to fulfil some legal contracts they had with other partners. As you remember, when they first announced 2024 it surprised many - and alot of people are talking about it on the inside - as to why they were rushing - and it maybe tied to video card/ memory sales… and the willingness of this community to spend no less than $5000 USD on this ‘hobby’.
I hear ya. I fly primarily in the US, and am pretty accustomed to avoiding special-use airspace (missions to airports within those airspaces notwithstanding). I also don’t mind entering my own flight plan (do it all the time IRL, doesn’t take long).
But to my earlier point, that’s me, using my real-world education and experience. The sim should have a standardized process, with the correct data so that new folks can easily do it the right way, the first time, every time. Until then, it’s just blasting people into the ether, through all sorts of conditions and airspace that are no-go in real life. And most people won’t know any better until they’re penalized for it, and even then, it doesn’t really give you the tools and instructions to not get penalized next time.
Had 2 of a 4 hours flight until it set me back to the starting point without any reason. ATC was even going on but with over 300 NM difference.
Please don’t ask me why I‘m still trying.
I learned that I should have never gone for my taildragger certification because now it seems like 90% of the missions offered are in the DeHaviland Viking, and I have no real desire to use that plane in career mode.
Completing a mission is a game of chance in this sim. Will the game crash? Will your plane just break? Will you spawn somewhere ridiculous? Will wind at the destination ruin your day? That was a good flight, let’s drop your rep! So many random bugs it’s a shame it’s so inconsistent, I just never know how it’s going to go when I load the sim. But when it all works, it’s enjoyable.
Yeah that sbout sums it up.
I enjoy the flights but reputation constantly taking a hit with no real explanation as to why is just annoying, as are the random bugs.
The hold short points on small airfields that ping you for entering taxiway without a radio call when you just backtrack the runway towards it is really winding me up at the moment. Even if I preempt with a “taxi to parking” radio call as soon as I stop on the runway, it doesn’t register because I’m not at hold short.
I really hope they fix a lot of these silly career bugs in the first SU.
I’ sorry you happened to get a “ding” for that. The Career is badly set for those things. To many items that cause errors.
I’ve earned to not trust the “Stop at hold short”. While taxiing to it there are so many times it gets moved, often I have to do a U-turn and travel all the way back to the other end of the runway.
I’m having this issue and it’s ruining the career mode for me. I fly perfect approaches, but the ATC is bugged, so I can never land at the airport because all I have is “Fly to pattern entry”. If I land, nothing happens.
