Carenado Cessna 182T Skylane

How did you guys manage to buy it ?! Each time for me it says “Failed Purchase”. No issue with ORBX products.

I clicked buy, my microsoft account thing popped up, I clicked to pay with paypal, then it downloaded and installed.

No way, we need to hold these developers accountable for releasing payware at this state. It has default G1000 and the sounds are not even mediocre. The airplane seems to be flying tail heavy by every person I have seen fly it. It’s not ready, Carenado is going to have to try harder to get my money.

The Carenado 182 is a default quality aircraft. You are paying $40 for one default aircraft when you pay $60 for the Standard MSFS version…which includes the entire simulator, 20 default aircraft and 30 custom airports. Carenado is out of their minds. They should either significantly lower the price, or significantly raise the quality.

The starting cold might be temperamental somehow with my hotas setup (honeycomb yoke, Logitech throttle quadrant). When I unplugged them, started it up with the mouse, no problem. One big error I noticed was the horrible NAV hold to a GPS course. It would deviate around 10 degrees and then fly off course for a bit. Once it was like a mile off course line, then it would intercept back in at 10-30 degrees and pass right by the course line again to continue repeating a zig zag. Don’t buy it. I would get my money back if I could figure out how.

Agreed, the quality and variety of default GA basically renders the current Carenado business model obsolete. They’ll need to be better and /or cheaper.

I bought it today, not overly impressed. I was hoping the strobe lights actually strobe like it does in other sims, but no… just a stupid little white flicker. Was expecting more from it to be honest. If I could, I would roll back time and not buy it, I would. Genuinely not impressed with the aircraft models so far.

This is purely a guess, but based on the feedback about the SDK over the last month or so I suspect Carenado had thought the SDK would be more robust earlier than it is. So they start ed working on this aircraft and it bit them. They could have delayed the release and chosen to keep it out of the store of course.

I know on occasion I’ve release a product relying a lot on a when a third partly library where the new library update introduced some new bugs that caught us out. So it could have been that. Who knows.

What is important is where they go from here. I would have expected some communication from them by now about the products reception and issues.

My main issue with it. When in cockpit. (Where I spend most my time) The engine sounds almost like a rotax. External sound is close to correct. But inside it is not. Worth the #30 I paid for it? No. Not in current state. I am hoping for a update eventually.

Agreed…Are they going to upgrade/improve the G1000 to at least the level of fidelity that is has for their aircraft in other sims?

Edit: I thought this was responding to my G1000 wishlist request. Given that it is about Carendao. No, I think Carenado will wait for Asobo to update the stock G1000. Like in X-Plane the Caranado birds use the stock system so I’m sure it will be the same here. Now if RelaityXP can work that would be super cool.

Original Text:
Absolutely. I am certain of it (that Asobo will update theirs, not Carenado) but I wanted to put it here because responses here will help decide priorities. This is my highest priority in the sim.

As basic system like this is usual of an initial release, it is all about getting the foundations right so extra features can come in with less bugs later. They have to get product out so money can keep coming in to fund further work. Microsoft won’t give unlimited funds to Asobo, that is not how you make money.

This is Microsoft Flight Simulator but Microsoft commissioned it, Asobo wrote it with help from MS and others.

They are usually pretty, but then it takes someone like SimCoders to make it any good…at least in X-Plane that’s how it was…

Anyone know if the G1000 used in the 182T is separate code from MSFS G1000, or same bugs?

Also, it pictures two skins - does it come with two?

If the G1000 code is separate, I’d really like to see Carenado migrate the Phenom over with the G1000 expansion packs which you can keep current by 3rd party subscription.

Thanks!

It unfortunately uses the generic MSFS G1000. It is unknown if they will eventually upgrade/improve it. I don’t think Carenado has commented on their 182 for MSFS yet…it just appeared for sale in the Marketplace without any details.

Thanks - I now see a much older discussion thread on this topic. Sorry about that - others ensure you check it out as it has mention of quality issues.

Looks like we have a long wait in store to even get a half-decent 3rd-part GA aircraft, like in P3D and X-Plane.

This whole business feels so rushed, images of a ‘Flight v2’ situation are in the background.

Even some of the Orbx scenery has issues and looks rushed and typical Orbx features we have come to expect are missing.

Weird how Carenado do not even mention it on their website in any form. Would they be ashamed of it!!. Orbx are advertising their partnership with FS2020 loudly.

It’s the default g1000 and for the life of me I can’t get it started without the ctrl-e “cheat” it seems to never get fuel into the cylinders…
Anyways, apart from that I really enjoy it. The extended ceiling due to more power makes flying in the Sierra (Tahoe) a lot easier than a typical non-turbo 182 and I like the prop pitch to learn without using two engines.

Is it worth 29$ … No not really. But I have bought worse planes for xplane 11 at that price…

I expect they will continue to improve some things like the starting issues (unless it’s me, I haven’t checked the procedure in the manual yet tbh) and hopefully their own g1000 … But I wouldn’t buy it and then be frustrated if you really wanted something else.

I bought it and tried to show my friend but, he could only see a generic beachcraft model. Does this mean that all dlc planes will still not be viewable by other players unless they own it??? I hope not.

No, they won’t need to buy the aircraft but they will need the a C182 model defined. I can’t remember how that is done so I can’t say how to fix it. But yeah, buying it probably wouldn’t event help and it is certainly not necessary.
