Carenado Mooney M20R Ovation

Do you fly real Mooneys? I own an M20E in real life and wondering if any real pilots have experience with this R version and how the flight modeling handles? good? bad? arcade?

You say to translate in xml but how to find out the text to translate ? Because I see some text
 but in Id, ReferenceId, SubjectTT tags
 I suppose that it refers to, or defines, variables somewhere and are not translatable !?

Do you get notified of patches somehow once they make them?

In file xml files, translate the clue name attribute and the CheckpointDesc SubjectTT and ExpectationTT attributes.

You confirm that changing SubjectTT and ExpectationTT doesn’t cause problems !?

Example:

If I edit that there is no problems ? Because underscore generally means it is not only a string but a variable !

You can also change the current VS at any time by using the UP/DN rocker switch on the AP.

For instance when you arm a new altitude it will default to 500FPM, but you can change that by using that rocker switch. Pressing UP about 5-10 times will cause you to be going up at 1000FPM.

TT: are translation strings, I remove all of them in the last version. So please update to the last version ( https://pms50.com/fs2020/carenado/m20r/carenado_m20r_checklist.zip ).
Then you can do the translations. To test after modification of the file, you must restart your current fly.

I’ve noticed this doesn’t update the FPM on the display when you do that, is that a bug or how it
works for real?

It doesn’t update the display and I think that’s correct - not absolutely certain as I’m not a Mooney pilot - but you can clearly see the actual FPM change on the VSI.

I love the head lamp for night flying. I wish there was a way to make it red, in case for instance, your avionics and panel lights go out.

That is awesome! I actually have a speed brake switch on my HOTAS.

I had my first flight in the Mooney and I definitely noticed that it did NOT want to slow down.

I now understand why the speed brake activation button is where it is on the yoke in the real plane. I just remapped my controls to match that location.

I’ve read your posts on the G36 mod thread and You really seem to know your stuff. If you do get the Mooney please let us know what you think. So far I really like it.

Most of these planes have been around a while, and pilots tend to update their cockpits. There really is no standard Mooney configuration. Take a look on TradeAPlane.com for some entertainment.

I challenge myself with it if I am totally vfr to try to plan the energy management so as to not use the speed brake on arrival, sometimes I succeed. Thanks for the kind words btw! I did pick it up actually and I really like it. I think I posted what I thought the pros and cons were, not really a review though, too busy testing other planes and fighting an fseconomy addiction:

I agree. I’ve done many ILS approaches in the Mooney and other aircraft IRL. Except for the A320 and the Dash 8, all of them were flown by hand. I regularly hand fly my A320 on the ILS, no AP, no A/Thrust.

More than half of the Garmin equipped aircraft I’ve flown couldn’t link an approach to the GPS! :rofl:
AP was heading hold, wing leveler, and if you were lucky, ALT hold!

To decelerate on descent is more tricky, as you’re going with gravity, like rolling your car down a hill. Slow down whilst you’re flying level and get some drag out before descent. :+1:

I know the Mooney is known to be a quick aeroplane, but is the Carenaado M20R too quick/overpowered?

I had 2 POB, 50% fuel equating to ~40% of total load. Climb out at 90kt gave me ~2000 fpm! Whilst still in t/o power, I leveled off at 2000’ and within a couple of minutes I was hitting the redline at 195kt - set cruise power to 22 MAP/2400 rpm and my speed settled back but still in the yellow speed range at 170ish kts.

Does this seem right? Anyone out there have some experience with the real thing to share? I’ve no personal stick tome on any Mooneys but it does seem odd to be coming so close to overspeeding the airframe in level flight. In my (rather) limited experience, setting cruice power in level flight would give you a speed roughly around the middle of the green arc.
