Carenado Mooney M20R Ovation

My guess is your trim was not properly set?

I just set the throttle “slider” on my Logit Extreme3D Pro as the trim wheel axis (-100% - +100%). It has made flying soooo much easier, more like flying a real plane than ever. What I’ve noticed however, if it’s slightly off, it will fight with the AP, which shows up as it being hoppy. The fix is to adust it till the AP is able to fly smoothly.

Or maybe you had accidentally turned on the Altitude hold thing next to the AP?

Then again, it might also just have been bad data in the AP for who knows what reason. The GNS530 mod author @ScorpionFilm422 just debugged an issue with the approaches of an airport that was causing a freeze of the GPS because it was injecting bad waypoint data and going into an infinite loop. There’s still a TON of error checking that Asobo has to put in the code and there are many ways of causing memory overwrites at the moment.

So, there is no way to change the pilot avatars from the Mooney M20R Ovation? I would like to keep using the same avatars as in all my other aircraft…

It’s meant for low-visibility conditions. It’s not for excitement, but for safety.

Sure I know it’s for safety Sir. But flying can be fun too, and when all fails, the manual skills matter. Happy holidays :blush:

Is the Mooney still working after the recent update to MSFS? lol… asking for a friend.

Flying it right now. Didn’t notice anything broken as of yet…

Full flight after the update. GNS530 mod by @ScorpionFilm422, loaded flight plan, AP, NAV, ILS, everything works so far. The AP heading change response seems improved too.

First flight tonight with the Mooney. Nice airplane. Had the GNS530 mod loaded - thanks @ScorpionFilm422 ! - and things went quite well. Slippery little A/C: let down to destination needs a bit more time, otherwise you come in pretty hot. I like the recognition lights… :slight_smile:

The model is very, very pretty. Just need more time in the left seat to get comfortable. The panel is a work of art, IMHO. The six engine management gauges running above the classic steam gauge arrangement are super nice. I think Carenado has done a good job of modelling this one. Check out the “real deal” below…

Hey, guys, now that the new yoke configuration sensitivity setting have been added, does anyone who’s flown a real life Mooney have any configuration settings to make it feel as close to the real thing as possible?

Alternatively, has anyone seen anything or anyone that has done it? Some settings to try?

I just want to say that I really hope Carenado updates this with VR support soon, because mouse interactions in the cockpit are barely usable right now.

Oh so Mooney is not playable?

I am searching for Reverb G2 as reading the posts, not very much issues with this VR.

If not playable, I have reason to put on hold and save my money :rofl:

It’s totally flyable in VR if you bind all your controls to input devices, but clicking buttons in the cockpit with the 3D mouse is extremely awkward because the mouse doesn’t conform to the shape of the controls like it does in the official aircraft (it works splendidly with the Bonanza). I was able to awkwardly align and click the three master power switches and starter switch with my mouse cursor floating way behind the switches, but the aircraft can’t bounce around in flight and you have to keep your head still. It would be almost impossible to interact with the Garmin, for example.

I’ve just bought the Mooney expecting a fast and fun airplane with steam gauges. Unfortunately, I can’t seem to enjoy the plane for these two issues:

Problem 1 - Default POV Quick View Cockpit Camera Settings
The problem is that default quick view cockpit camera controls don’t pan like all the default aircraft - ie 45/90/135 left or right on the POV stick translates to 45/90/135 left or right in the cockpit. Some point towards the cockpit panel or move the camera to the edge of the cockpit or stick to the cockpit selected view and don’t return back. I’d like the POV quick views to behave like they do on the default aircraft. Otherwise it’s impossible to look around the cockpit using the POV switch. I don’t use TrackIR nor VR so it’s a deal breaker for me.

Problem 2 - Low FPS Fixed by Reloading the Plane in Dev Mode
Here is the issue:

  1. When I load a flight I have approx 30 fps using the in game FPS counter. This is approx 20% less then normal.
  2. While in the developer mode, I select a different airplane (eg. Baron G58) using the aircraft selector menu. FPS go up to 37.
  3. I load the Mooney Bravo again using the aircraft selector menu and the FPS remain at 37.

I’m not using any mods whatsoever and I can replicate it every time.

Does anyone have the same problems? Or can anyone give me tips on how to solve the issues?

Thanks!

Problem 1 has nothing to do with the plane. Have you tried using your mouse to look around? I don’t bother with the Hat. If you really want to use the hat, there are instructions around for how to program the hat to act “normally”. Sorry I can’t help with that. For the Mouse, if you long press the scroll wheel, it will turn on the ability to pan the view all over with the mouse. Right button press to turn it off. When in pan mode, you can’t really interact with the buttons and stuff. So there are drawbacks.

Problem 2: yes, the plane is a little heavy on frames. It uses 4096 textures. You could create a livery with 2048 textures instead, and that would probably help some. But, is 30 FPS really that bad? I’m not a frame chaser myself. As long as flight is smooth with minimum stuttering, I’m happy.

Problem 1: Google. It’s MSFS default, not related to Mooney. Below is good tutorial if this is what you want to achieve.

Problem 2: Depends on your hardware. Lots of tutorials too. I am running 34” Ultra wide. Happily 35 to 50 FPS across all aircraft.

Thanks man. Reading all related posts on VR, there’s overwhelmingly positive feedbacks than negatives. I want to try VR, and searched local stores here but all out of stock. :joy:

@IronDad1289:
Regarding problem 1: That’s not the issue. I have this set up just like in the video. Default planes work just fine. The problem is Mooney specific because the quick view cameras are set up in a wrong way. I’ve tried messing around the cameras.cfg but without success. I’ve contacted Carenado support so let’s see. I was hoping someone here might know a solution.

@FlyingsCool5650:
Regarding problem 1: Thanks. I have, but I don’t like it that way. I like to use the quick views.

@IronDad1289 and @FlyingsCool5650:
I figured out what the problem is with the FPS - external lights. With lights turned off, my FPS is the same as with other GA planes. However, when I turn on the external lights my FPS drop from 39 to 30. On other GA planes my FPS drop from 39 to 37 or 36. This makes Mooney 3 to 4 times as taxing as default GA planes. I do expect an FPS drop with lights turned on, but not a 25% FPS reduction. Especially when default planes work fine.

Hello. Have you checked custom camera views? I have saved my custom views in the cockpit.

Thanks for the external lights tips. I have not noticed it but will check it out.

Happy holidays!

Is there a manual with the plane?
1st 3rd party plane I bought

@IronDad1289: I did, but it doesn’t always work. It messes the zoom sometimes, very unreliable.
