Carenado Piper Arrow for MSFS to be released imminently

i have found the heading, hsi, and obs all move at 10+ steps, flaps seem to do nothing. Other than that, i like it a lot.

Still in flight, so we will see how she does on landing, but
 I am VERY pleased.
Quality of visuals, cockpit, sound are AMAZING and the best there is as far as commercially released MSFS aircraft goes. Just stellar. VERY friendly on FPS as well.

It’s a little “cleaner” in terms of wear on the cockpit than the Seminole - that one has a little more “been there done that” feel. It feels appropriate to the aircraft from 2000s.

Takeoff performance was a LITTLE sluggish, but I haven’t looked at performance charts very much yet (they are available on the visor as usual).

Everything you expect from Carenado is there - functioning doors, static elements, all controlled by the yoke iPad.

Only two GNS430s - no map. S-Tec autopilot exactly like in Seminole. But the cockpit is NOT copy/paste.

Level of details on the wings, reflections, little dirt on the windshield - all are very immersive. The price is not a lot to ask for given the quality you are getting. I highly recommend this. I will definitely compare it to the Just Flight version once that comes out - hopefully it comes tomorrow. But I also have Flying Iron’s warbird to buy tomorrow, so I have plenty of new toys to fly.

I DID notice that the Air Fan switch is clickable but it is not animated and doesn’t do anything when you click it, but this is a small detail that’s fairly inconsequential.

This is as good as the Mooney in my book. If anyone wants to know anything else, don’t hesitate to ask. Cheers!

They disabled it somehow? If it is not the Asobo’s default unit, In that case it will not easily work with the fantastic GNS mod by ScorpionFilm422

No, no
It IS the default, but the normal view of it doesn’t show the map. It’s good for all those who want to fly without the map visible on some screen at all times.

If it is the default GNS430, just turn the page on the unit and it has the map

Right, but for those who don’t want maps, the default view is NOT the map.

Landed safely. It IS slippery, so manage your approach well. Flaps don’t seem to provide THAT much drag. I will have to fly again and come in a little less hot to see how those feel again.

One thing - at night, the instrument lights don’t work via knobs - have to use the keyboard shortcut to turn them on. No biggie, I filed the support ticket with Carenado’s ZenDesk. I am sure they will fix that in the next update.

Thanks for the review. Could you tell me if it is very different from PA44?

IMO too many planes and no one is complete at all.

Two GNS430 ? That’s a bit scary
I mean, I pilot my Garmin GNS avionics with external (MIDI) hardware, programmed with AxisAndOhs, which uses Simconnect to send/receive data to the sim if I’m not mistaken. There are Simconnect commands to interact with THE GNS530 or THE GNS430 but I don’t think you can communicate with a secondary GPS of the same model, I’ll keep an eye on the reviews and hope someone tests this.

I mean
It’s a single-engine aircraft, so it’s different in that regard. So, all performance numbers are different and I find that it handles differently on the ground and in air. But it’s not such a far cry - if you know how to handle one, you will have no difficulty picking up the other. The cockpit is very similar.

How do you deal with the C172 Classic? It’s got a 530 and a 430.

The Simconnect commands to “talk” to a 530 and a 430 are different, so no conflict when both are in the same plane like on the C172 Classic. But two 430 (or two 530) ? There is no way I know of to say to which one I want to send a command to.

For example, to open the menu, I can send “AS430_MENU_Push” or “AS530_MENU_Push”, but I don’t think there is a command that says “AS430_MENU_Push_but_only_on_the_first_430”

Maybe you could do it based on the circuit or the index

AS430.html?Index=1 and AS430.html?Index=2

It did feel a little sluggish on take-off when I flew it. About to fly again. Cruise speed is not relevant at that phase of flight and there ARE reports from folks who feel the Seminole is overpowered, so I am going to reserve judgement.

OK, did a second, a little more in-depth flight just now

This thing needs some flight model adjustments. The flaps seem to have no effect AT ALL on drag or anything else. It’s also REALLY difficult to bleed off airspeed. Even flying level at practically idle throttle, I was having issues bleeding off speed and unlike the Mooney Ovation, there are no speed brakes on the Arrow. Other than that, I really have no complaints. I think (hope) Carenado will update this as they always have with their other aircraft to address some of these issues. It’s still an enjoyable aircraft, but I find that I have to plan my approach far in advance (like I had to when the Asobo flap issue was happening with other aircraft)
As of now, there can’t really be any steep descents in that thing unless you are pretty far out.

It’s so funny to read what I wrote in German. Ha!

The flaps don’t deploy visually? I haven’t noticed as I don’t really switch to the “outside” view.

There is a lot of discussion about this release over here https://www.avsim.com/forums/topic/596584-carenado-arrow-goes-on-sale/

I tried using the flaps. It didn’t go well. The plane acted as if the tail had been ripped off and nose dived into the ground. This is not ideal on the base leg of a circuit. I reloaded, checked and it did the same.
