No it doesn’t, it has a Garmin GPS100 at the top of the right-hand stack.
You can choose GNS100, GNS430 or GNS530 … that is pretty cool that you can switch them on the fly without having to reload the plane
Correction!
This plane is wired. It doesn’t feels like anything in msfs2020. It is extremely stable in the air without any bump, and when you make a turn it always automatically levels off as if the ap is on.
$25 may be more than you or I want to pay, but historically it’s right on par for this type of aircraft. Go browse SimMarket and you’ll see that the $25-$35 range is normal for small non-study level GA aircraft for P3D, FSX, and X-Plane.
That’s a pretty meritless statement. Both versions look realistic, but they’re depicting two different eras of plane. That’s like having a racing game and saying that only depictions of 80s Corvettes are realistic and modern vettes isn’t.
I don’t think they are clowns. Perhaps being a little Luddite-ish.
Carenado are the Ubisoft of slight sim addons. They pump out high volume with lots of eye candy, but they’re always buggy as hell and potentially partially broken at launch. However they usually end up fixing most issues, but not until after the negative reviews from all the bugs. Rinse, repeat. Carenado planes on day 1 are usually iffy. Carenado planes a month or two after launch are pretty great.
That thread is a microcosm of AVSIM in general. 5 pages of mostly unbridled rage at Carenado and complaining about how terrible this plane is, but not a single person willing or able to articulate what’s so bad about it other than, “flight model”. Not what’s wrong with the flight model. No details, no actual pointed complaints. Just rage. If that isn’t peak AVSIM, I’m not sure what is.
I am dismayed that some people like to say disparaging things against a product when they haven’t actually looked into WHAT that product is. Carenado’s representation is very accurate of the modern Arrow cockpits.
In terms of system depth, Carenado will be the first to tell you that they do a fairly simple implementation of systems - it’s enough for an enjoyable flight, but they’re no A2A. Also, you are gonna pay $50-60 for A2A, while Carenado is $25. For the price, their quality is great to me. I am happy to have all their aircraft in my hangar.
Also, Carenado’s bugs at launch are way less severe than some other developers are willing to release - Carenado may have lights that are bugged and require a keyboard press… A CDI arrow might not work exactly right… Flight dynamics may be a little off. But they end up fixing all those issues in subsequent patches - they are pretty good at getting them completed fast - the only delay is due to Marketplace.
On the other hand, you have AT Simulations releasing aircraft where the aircraft crashes as soon as it is loaded because it’s embedded into the apron, radios are broken and don’t auto-tune to frequencies, engine sounds that don’t change when you open doors… You have Lionheart where things look ugly, avionics switch doesn’t animate and isn’t functional so it has to be on at all times, lights can’t be turned off (and they KNOW it at release), blame all that ■■■■ on Asobo and SDK.
When have you heard a single peep out of Carenado about how miserable SDK is and how everything is such a chore to do and Asobo doesn’t do their job? They get stuff done.
I don’t like the AVSIM crowd because of that. EVERY thread is full of ■■■■■■■■ and moaning with very little specifics and LOTS of entitlement.
I’ve bought the Carenado Piper Arrow. Is there any sort of manual accompanying it? If so, where?
Carenado’s support site implies that aircraft manuals will be in the Official/OneStore folder within the simulator content folder, I have found that and have located the Carenado Arrow sub-folder, but I’m blowed if I can find anything resembling a manual.
Yea, the first guy in that AVSIM thread bashing the Carenado Arrow declared it the worst Carenado product ever, and “I bought it so you don’t” have to. His issues that were judged to be irredeemable and rage-inducing? 1. He had to press a keyboard key to turn a light on. 2. He couldn’t tick part of his checklist. 3. The plane climbed too straight.
…No there’s no more. That was a damning complaint. This was met mostly by the rest of the posters just raging on Carenado itself. One guy posted a detailed response about why he thought it was pretty decent, and included lots of reasoning and examples. He was mostly either ignored or shouted down.
I’d really like to join a forum of some higher level users like AVSIM…but it’s just soooo toxic.
I have an account there, but I posted a grand total of about 5 times. I try to stay away as the vibe is just a downer. It ruins my mood.
That said, I buy everything for MSFS, even if I know it’s gonna be terrible. Just so I can experience and review it, but… I do have money to spare, so I know not everyone is in that boat. But when I DO post something about it, I usually have a list of very specific grievances and they usually tend to be pretty critical to one’s enjoyment of the aircraft.
The entire place strikes me as a cabal of men who send back their steak at Texas Roadhouse because they prefer their medium-rare closer to rare than medium, and this was closer to medium than rare. And then they write an angry review letter to the editor of their local newspaper about it. (don’t tell them Yelp exists)
HAHAHA! That’s SO on point!
Personally, I’m more than willing to pay more for quality, especially realism quality vs. eye candy quality, which from what I’ve been able to ascertain, Carenado is more known for their eye-candy than realism. Plus their customer service and communication skills suk.
So I’ll be (not so patiently) waiting for the JF version, and almost certainly go that way. Would I like it to be cheaper? Of course, I want everything to be cheaper. But unless Carenado’s really stepped up their game, I can’t imagine their product being superior, especially in the realism column.
It would be nice to see at least one head to head comparison video from a reliable source before I pull the trigger, but when it comes to exciting and new airplanes for my favorite sim, I tend to have an itchy trigger finger.
Hello Jeremy, are you seeing what I described in the comment above, which is after turning the aircraft and let go the joystick, the plane automatically levels itself horizontally instead of keeping the bank angel as other plane should.
I only did one flight with it last night, it isn’t something I noticed, but I am gonna do a lot more flying of it today, so I will let ya know what I come up with!
Many thanks!
@ bearvsbunny
Yes, it does. I didn’t notice originally as I habitually roll out of turns rather than just centre the stick.
