Watched today the Dev stream and the 3rd free aircraft was mentioned to be Piper PA28 Dakota 236. What thoughts do you have?
I love the Carenado airplanes, because they have very good 3D models and textures. They look almost photorealistic, and love how good they respond in the air (handling in general).
What i expect from the new airplane?
I expect very detailed 3D model with a very good texture and amazing flight handling.
What i don’t expect:
I don’t expect a JustFlight so-called full fidelity model, like simulated fuses etc.
My Wish:
I would love to see the Dakota 236 with a upgraded cockpit as well. To be available for Career mode and at least the preflight check walking around.
Default Cockpit:
Upgraded Cockpit:
Thank you for all your participation and opinions.

I’m a sucker for Pipers so I’m excited for this one!

The plane will likely look great but will be a little shallow in in depth. So I wish Asobo would move on from Carenado, and get with Just Flight or A2A Simulations. Aren’t most of Carenado’s aircraft just remasters of stuff they already did in FSX?
Just Flight’s Pipers are always better than Carenado’s. Not sure why an earlier comment seemed to imply the opposite.
I was greatly disappointed with the Carenado Archer because they neglected to include an autopilot. Seems silly you can choose between the PMS or TDS GTN750, but not have an autopilot. I do hope Carenado won’t do that with the this new one.

Do you mean me? I don’t think i did that, no idea.
JustFlight do simulate more, for sure. But i think in 3D modelling & texturing, Carenado wins.
And i believe they did not add the autopilot, because those usually don’t have any autopilot in real. JustFlight don’t have a autopilot either, but you can use it (cheating LOL), like the PA38 Tomahawk can use the autopilot from the tablet.
If you look at the first image, this one has one, a very simple one. And in the second image, there is a more advanced autopilot available. Let’s hope for something good.
I would love to have a JustFlight Piper with the Carenado model + textures = Perfect mix, in my opinion.

I apologize if I misunderstood you. The quote above is what I was referring to, but as I said, I am sorry I missed your meaning.
I agree that Carenado planes look great, even better or the same as other admired devs. I am anxious to see if they will bring back the Navajo, or Cheyenne, or Chieftan. Loved those in FSX days.
Sorry again.
As I suspected, its another remaster of a plane they put out in FS 2004
No it looks like there is no autopilot.

What makes you think it’s not going to have an AP in MSFS 2024? They’re not using the exact same model. Take a look at what they have for FS9, FSX, and P3D and compare it to what they have for MSFS / MSFS 2024.
EDIT: Just looked at the video. It does have an autopilot. It’s a KAP 140.

It might have a heading hold.
Why do you think it might only have that?
Do I have to justify how I think? Just wait until it’s released and find out.

All I’m saying is that the Dakota that was released back then has virtually no (if any) relevance to what will be released for MSFS / MSFS 2024. Why mention the lack of an autopilot about a product that they released over 15 years ago? The new one may or may not have an autopilot in MSFS / MSFS 2024.
EDIT: Oh I see you quoted someone else.

They are, but still fun to fly. And for free theres nothing to complain about. I do hope carenado catchs up though. Because they are old fsx models and textures, all the highlighting and shadows painted in need to go now. Let the lighting systems in the sims handle that. It just looks weird when the light moves and highlights dont.
Legit general question: the consensus amongst us seems to be that Carenado systems aren’t as good as, say, A2A (well, literally only their one and only plane clears that bar), but their modeling is top notch.
If their planes were ported from older sims, wouldn’t the very opposite be more likely?
Its not the a2a model prople rave about. Its their own flight modeling . I could care less about fuses

I’ve never understood the complaints about Carenado. Their airplanes are fine. I fly them, and like them. The price is right. You want more systems…pay more money. Simple. And this airplane is free! You want A2A fidelity for free? I feel that Carenado was the right choice for building the default airplanes.

I think the same way. The price is fair and nice handling.
But i was disappointed by Carenado because of their PA-28 Archer II. There are few bugs and one of them is the fuel pump sound disappear after 5 seconds and that’s it. I asked them twice in like 8 months or so, at that time there was no MSFS 2024 and was flying 2020, they did respond but never fixed those issues.
In MSFS 2024 the Archer II is available but still the same issue, so i stopped using it. My big hope is the new Dakota, maybe i can replace it in this way. Else, i stuck with COWS DA-40 XLS.
