it’s going to require some extra hands-on controllers but you know you can “push” your pax out of the way, right? such an amazing little detail and really fun. glad you’re enjoying it - it’s absolutely great

Love it. It’s very close to the good old A2A Cub in look, feel and features. I wonder if there will be paddle feature for the upcoming float variant, just like in the A2A one.

The only thing I don’t like are the smoke puffs from the exhaust. They look bad. I gotta see if I can disable them somehow.

Anyway, I took her for a little maiden flight from Page to Monument Valley, which took a while at 60 knots. Very enjoyable!

Haha yeah she is slow. Got to tack with the wind like a sailing boat if you want to stay towards a decent GS!

i believe there is an option in the tablet to enable / disable engine exhaust smoke. hope that works for you

Thanks, I think I even know which option it is. I thought it was to switch more parts from painted black to bare like the engine, but couldn’t find the changed part on the aircraft. In hindsight these four grey/black things looks like the exhaust puffs.

i don’t have my sim open now or i would screenshot it for you but i think it’s the last page with all the other options, like virbations, etc. there’s a line item in there for exhaust smoke so it’s not on the “tidbits” page where you add wheel fairings, chocks, etc

SimMarket usually install the addon in a specified folder but not always. This one comes as a zip archive, no “auto-install”. You still need the SimMarket app though.

I purchased this on SimMarket and the SimMarket app DOES autoinstall the Cub in the Community folder.

Thanks all! It’s not a big deal, I’ll take an app install if that’s what is available. I consider it to be a clunky solution to do a simple task, but it’s far from being a deal breaker. And of course, for everyone like me who prefers a zip file there is someone else who prefers an installer, so there’s no “right” or “wrong” way to do it.

This little Cub really calls out to me. I doubt I’ll find the strength in me to wait too much longer, hehe.

The second you grab that propeller and see the smooth animation and the satisfying cylinder compression resistance, you’ll know you made the right choice.

As you all have been saying: what an utterly wonderful plane this is! I am in love!

It took me a while to take off. More importantly, it took me a long while to start the engine. Without the manual linked by B.A. above I would never have pulled it off. But now I’m happily in the air for the first time. She feels so alive! And the sounds!

(IRL I’m quite the fan of the Piper Cub, so there is a chance that this is influencing my appreciation. But honestly, this module is beyond stunning! If that’s CAS’ first effort, I can’t wait to see what they come up with next.)

If anyone is wondering: so far everything works very well indeed in VR. With the left window down (could the real Cub do that?) and the door open it doesn’t feel claustrophobic at all. Everything vibrates (the intensity of which can be adjusted), it could fool me into thinking I’m in the real plane.

I flew this on last night’s stream, but it didn’t start that way. I accidentally jumped in the wrong J3 (they look very similar in the aircraft manager) and proceeded to “test fly” the new one in the pattern at Auburn (KAUN) for about 20 minutes until the dev themselves stepped in and said “that’s not my plane.” I just about died - you know, I’d been looking for the tablet and wondered what was off…

So after getting in the right plane, I took it around the pattern a few more times, did a couple crosswind landings, then took it over to Folsom Lake for some airwork - steep turns, slow flight, stalls, a spin, then some falling leaf exercises. I love the stall characteristics, but what I think I love most about this plane is it’s powerful enough (it wants to fly), but you really have to pay attention to stick and rudder skills and keep your eyes outside the cockpit. A great blend of old tech, but doesn’t feel stodgy and pokey.

After landing at Cameron (O61), we took it up over the Sierras an into Lake Tahoe (KTVL). Aside from the beauty of it, the flight and landing was uneventful. We’ve been focusing a lot lately on how density altitude affects aircraft and last night the DA was up around 9000’ at TVL. The takeoff was fine, kept it in ground effect, then climbed out but could not get more than 100 fpm or so (estimated due to no VSI, which is a good thing - please don’t add one!). So I circled for altitude over the golf course, which is par for the course at TVL, before heading along the western shore of the lake, past Emerald Bay, Tahoe City, Kings Beach, Incline Village, then up over the Mt Rose Highway (NV 431) into Reno, where we finished at Spanish Springs airport (N86) north of the city.

Lots of cool features - I love pouring the fuel, different options for N-number display, vibrations are killer, and the wheel chirp and vibration upon touchdown is extremely immersive. The textures are great - not a cartoon with pristine wear, but not overly worn, either. Overall, this is a pilot’s airplane. It’s absolutely great for low and slow scenic flights, but with the difficulty of tailwheel, no flaps, and not a lot of modern amenities (the optional comm radio and transponder is a welcome touch). It is not squirrely on touchdown, even in a stiff crosswind, no sliding on ice here, but you do have to be on your rudder game, as you should be.

All in all a very welcome addition to the hangar. And very special thanks to the dev for popping in the stream, adding some info, and of course, making sure I was in the right airplane!

There was a very excellent programme in the UK a few years ago called Flying Across Britain With Arthur Williams where he flew his yellow J3 cub to different airfields across the country and talked about them and the local history.

I think it’s quite hard to find these episodes but I recorded them and must have watched them all many times over.

I wasn’t that bothered about the Cub before then but you can’t help but be affected by Arthur’s sheer enthusiasm. I am pleased there is now a very decent example if this in the sim, I will look forward to getting it tomorrow and maybe recreating some of the flights.

Oh my…what a gold mine of a show…cracking
…only just begun it.
Can’t believe never heard or seen of it.
Ma’am, much eternal gratitude for turning me onto this show… accidentally as may be.
The fact that he did/does what he …with the overcoming of a huge, almost insurmountable obstacle…what an inspiration
Only saw a wee bit, back to it.
The show is quite easy to find actually…Tubi is where I’m watching

After a botched, hard off-airport landing I discovered it’s possible to lose a wheel…
