Central and South America Recommendations?

I’m trying to expand my collection of airports south of the United States that offer at least one of the following:

  • Stunning surrounding scenery, or

  • A famous or challenging approach

  • BONUS: Real‑world 737 operations

So far, I’ve picked up Congonhas (SBSP) and Santos Dumont (SBRJ) by Paulo Ricardo which rank among my favorites. I’d be happy to hear your suggestions.

Following; I’ve spent far too much time north of the equator!

However, I have sim-flown into SVMI, north coast of Venezuela, with mountains surrounding. I’ve only done this in FS2020, so will be curious how 2024 renders this.

Here are some you’d like

  • SAWH
  • SKBO
  • SKIP
  • SLLP

Thanks for the suggestion — SAWH (Ushuaia – Malvinas Argentinas International Airport) catches my eye since it’s in Patagonia. This might be a good fit.

For you and anyone else who chimes in, it would be really helpful if you could mention which developer made the airport you’re recommending and what specifically made you choose it (scenery quality, unique approaches, etc.). That’ll make it easier to compare all options going forward.

Oaxaca, Mexico. The scenery even comes with Monte Alban ruins.

For outstanding add-ons (and I like the surroundings too), I can recommend Curitiba and Jericoacoara from flyt. From Paulo Ricardo, Viracopos and Recife are also great. Cayenne by SLH Sim Designs is equally fantastic.

If you’re looking for great locations, I’d particularly recommend El Alto/La Paz. A solid, well-made airport by Sierrasim in a wonderful location in the heart of the Andes at an altitude of 4,000 metres. I’ve visited the airport myself and it’s well modelled by Sierrasim, though it doesn’t quite match the quality of top developers. Palonegro in Colombia, also by Sierrasim, offers an equally good combination of solid quality and a spectacular location.

If it’s on sale, I’d recommend the older scenery Santiago de Chile by LVFR as well. And I also like all airports by Vuelosimple in Argentina, which are also situated in beautiful surroundings, mainly in northern Argentina; the newer ones in particular are of good quality. In case of Lima by Low-End PC Studios, you certainly shouldn’t expect Pyreegue-level quality, but the airport is solid, up to date (with the new terminal) and receives regular updates. Furthermore, Lima is a major hub in South America and situated right by the sea, with the desert behind the city. So I also like the approach.

All these airports are likely to be served by the 737 (I’m not sure in case of Palonegro).

Thanks for the Oaxaca (MMOX) recommendation — that VOR approach is definitely a good challenge, and the scenery doesn’t disappoint.

I’m currently spending most of my sim time exploring Central America before heading farther south.

Another airport that caught my attention is La Aurora International (MGGT) in Guatemala City. Sierrasim offers a decent rendition of it, and the surrounding terrain makes for some really enjoyable approaches.

Its too bad top developers shy away from this region, also many suggestions appear to be Marketplace exclusives - but I hope to find some gems by less known talents.

Additional suggestions are welcome!

Here is a flight I really enjoyed: Mexico DF to Acapulco (MMMX - MMAA) in the Vision Jet. Make sure to start at dusk and fly by Izta and Popocatepetl, the two dominant volcanoes South East of Mexico DF.

FS.to has a decent scenery for Acapulco Intl. (not sure if it works in FS24, though)

There’s a pretty good MROC in the Orbx Jurassic package, and a decent MPTO from V Pilot in the Marketplace.

How does the orbx MROC compare to the v pilot designs version?

Did not know about the orbx MRCO. folowing this!

The ORBX MROC is better because it uses more of the MSFS 2024 textures and such.

I wonder how all those airports behave with BATC. Biggest risk right now is endup with an empty airport because aircraft just disappear after landing or don’t takeoff…

That’s mostly with default airports, it’s a big Asobo problem they need to fix. Most 3rd party airports work fine.
