Cessna 172 bushkit

It’s time to get back to my first Cessna 172 mod !

This is a plane mod I started more than three years ago, starting from a flight model initiated by ReaperS73 and modifications to the Asobo’s C172 3D model.

The Skyhawk bushkit became the first powerfull member of the short take-off and landing capable Skyhawk family built on a Lycoming 210HP STC with :

  • large and stable bush wheels
  • Sportsman STOL Camber Cuffs on the wings
  • Increased flaps angle
  • enhanced brakes

The mod stabilized at version 2 for a long time, but as I redid a complete interior for the Reims Rocket, I started porting features back to taildragger and now bushkit.

You can expect to get :

  • working doors, windows, sunvisors
  • a configuration book to choose all options
  • wheel chocks, tiedowns, covers, gpu
  • VFR maps on a cardboard on the yoke
  • a tablet to display external applications (sky4sim, fs mca, vfrmap…)
  • visible pilot, copilot, passengers
  • custom seats configuration (pax, cargo)
  • checklist cards and flip checklist box
  • various radio stacks (vfr, all radios, pms750, tds750nxi)
  • optionnal garmin G5 units
  • state saving
  • etc.

Most of the work has been done.

I have a pre-release version if you want to try and participate to beta :
https://www.bagolu.com/dl/bagolu-c172-bush.zip

Like with the taildragger rework, liveries compatible with old G1000 and classic variantes will have to be updated for this one. I’ll be happy to help in that process if required.

Hi Bagolu,

I‘m really happy that you haven‘t forgotten your older work. Over the last years I‘ve spent many exciting hours in your bush kit 172 exploring Idaho backcountry strips and many other places across the lower 48.
I‘m currently testing your beta version … so far I haven‘t found any real bugs.
When I look at the aircraft from the passenger side in the outside camera, it looks as if the passenger door isn‘t complete closed … but since somebody mentioned that doors sometimes have to be slammed shut many times, it could be a feature?
Unloading cargo doesn‘t seem to work, but I assume you just haven‘t implemented it yet. But apart from these two minor things the current version works perfectly for me. Just wanted to let you know, so that you have some feedback for the beta version.

Would you have a screenshot of the door problem ? I don’t see the issue

I’m not sure I will implement oustide cargos for bushkit and taildragger : cargos are part of the plane and sink through ground or fly when plane is heavy or light if you see what I mean. If I could spawn external simobjects that would not be an issue, but that’s only doable through simconnect (wasm or external exe)

Thanks for the kind words and the report

Do you have any plans to overhaul the cockpit visuals of the Reims Rocket? Don’t get me wrong they’re great, but for some reason they don’t seem quite as photorealistic as the Asobo stock Cessna. I guess this might be difficult to impossible to achieve for a freeware dev? I have no idea about mod development so please excuse the stupid question. I just love that plane and wish there was more photorealism in the cockpit, I guess I mainly mean the look of the steam gauges and some of the textures.

The main difference I notice between the two is the depth of the gauges. The default has more depth to the gauges. Like literal depth. The glass is sunk further back.

I started from sal1800 pack for the gauges, and contributed a little to it.
I’ll probably work on it later but I know I won’t get the asobo C172 classic quality, they’re profesionnal

Ah, I see. But does that sinking or floating really happen that often to be a big problem? After all, users who don’t like it just can NOT use it.

I will grab a screenshot of the door when I am back at my computer … have some real world work to do now.

I think I’ll change my mind on this !

Looks great to me! Hope you‘ll keep it
Btw, I tried to grab a picture of the door and didn’t see it anymore … maybe it was just a trick of the light or a camera glitch the first time.

ok cool ! thank you for taking the time to investigate

I like the Bush / Bagolu C172’s however do they make a bush plane like that, that also uses the G1000 panels? I use the RealSimGear G1000 Suite.

I don’t support the GA1000 avionics variant anymore in this mod.

I started with no lights at all on radios & gps.
It should be easier to fly by night soon !

I’ve also worked a little on the G450 3D model and textures :
