After spending much of yesterday assigning my CH yoke everything works exactly the way I want it to. Well, sort of. After I quit FS I had to reboot my PC (none FS related) . Shortly thereafter I reloaded FS and found all my settings for this yoke were gone. The profile I had created/saved had completely disappeared.
Today, I recreated the profile, reassigned the desired controls/settings/etc and I am back in business.
What I would like to know is where these settings are saved. I want to make sure I can backup them up and not have to go through this again.
Ymml/Falcon2751, your posts have gotten me to actually show: CH FLIGHT SIM YOKE USB PROFILE, instead of DEFAULT by selecting the preset manager. However, there are no mapping options listed under this profile. Page is just blank. When I first added a profile, a mapping page flashed up for a moment, then disappeared. Can you help with what I need to do to get a mapping page under the CH Yoke profile? Note that I am somewhat new to flight sim’s.
Someone else can chime in here, but I believe controller binding Profiles are all saved in the cloud. There may also be local Profile config files (I’ve seen some note of this for Steam users), but if so they are pretty well buried. During testing we saw some instances where Profiles would get lost, but it seemed like it pretty well stabilized. We may be seeing some intermittent issues with cloud backups getting “lost” due to the crazy server loading, but that’s just a guess on my part! My sense is that if you get a Profile saved and it is back the next time you log in, then you are good and don’t need to worry about it. Besides rebuilding all the bindings is good practice … JK
To MadDog5556367’s question, it sounds like you did successfully create a custom Profile page for your CH Yoke. You should see 2 Profiles - Default and the new one you referenced. Unfortunately for the CH Flight Sim Yoke, there are no Default bindings at all, so you’ll have to crate them manually from scratch. There are several threads on this now including one I added to (half way down) with an example of bindings that I have used.
In addition to the advice given in this thread, there is also a very detailed helpful YT video from Squirrel on how the whole Control setup system works. It sounds a lot more complicated than it really is (well … at least once you get used to it).
Unfortunately for those of us using a lot of the CH controller products, MSFS doesn’t create default bindings for us, so we have to do it ourselves. The (slight) silver lining is that you get to learn the Control setup part of the sim (by necessity). It really is very powerful and will let you map your controllers exactly the way you want them!
If I can help with anything else on this, just let me know. Rick
Thanks everyone. I figured it out. I had the Filter set to Assigned. Since nothing was assigned, there was nothing listed. Once I changed the filter to Essentials or All, I found what I needed. Simple, but elusive for longer than it should have been.
Now, I just need to work on the Mapping. Ymml’s screenshot helped a lot, but more to do.
I tried this but still no luck. I’ve completed some duplicate bindings already within the cockpit to have the first click bring back to internal cockpit view and a second click of the same button to reset the view which is working great. I’ve been able to configure the toggle external view and reset external view using a different button but with the same two click type workflow but can’t seem to get the POV hat to work for left, right, up, down panning. If someone has a screenshot of their setup that completes this, that’d be great.
Disregard…I finally figured it out. I had left some other controls bound to the POV that I was unaware and once I removed those it’s up and working. It must have created a conflict.
It does take time and if you read the experiences of others you’ll see some common issues appearing as DebonairFlyr thankfully shared…sometimes it is as simple as other controls bound with duplication and hence conflict but difficult to discover.
While the controls setup can be complicated and overwhelming, the devs have created a massive amount of binding options and while some devices seem discovered by the sim, the actual device buttons and axis might not be mapped to an actual sim control. The sensitivities tab will show movement as you move the levers of your throttle for example however it’s only when you change the fields and look further you find nothing is actually assigned.
In my case I’m NO expert in the sim at all however 8 months of being a lucky alpha/beta tester just gives me some advance knowledge that other will gain.
IIRC correctly the device setup configurations are actually stored on MS cloud so no file is saved to your pc..it could be a server issue which did occur sometimes…unfortunately I’m still bound by NDA so not sure how far I can divulge.
Unfortunately I’m at work now so hopefully others can jump in and help you out otherwise I’ll be back home in about 5 hours.
Just one last one, does the sim list your devices along the top menu bar under Controls and does the profile name under each tab for each device show Default or the devices name?
Are you having issues with elevator authority? Looks like you need to assign Elevator axis to the Joystick - Axis Y.
This is most of my setup minus camera views. I’d advise looking at your prop and throttle settings. Choosing the listings with ‘1’ next to them will only bind for engine number 1 for multi engine aircraft. Choosing the axis items for each will equally manipulate each throttle / mixture / propeller control on each engine uniformly.
@TwoPoodles2, just as DebonairFlyr discovered, your elevator control is mapped to Elevator down (pitch down) and Elevator up (pitch up) when it should be Elevator Axis.
Seems to work OK with the elevator set up the way I have it. I will still change it as suggested, because it is a little cleaner with just one setting to worry about.
